Chenoweth to Star in The Apple Tree at Studio 54 This Fall

Roundabout Theatre Company will present Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth as "Eve, Princess Barbara and Ella" in a new Broadway production of The Apple Tree, with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, book by Bock and Harnick, and directed by Gary Griffin, at Studio 54 on Broadway (254 West 54th Street).

The Apple Tree will begin previews Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 and open officially on Thursday, December 14th, 2006.   This is a limited engagement through Sunday, March 11th, 2007.

The Apple Tree will feature choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision by Rob Fisher.

Additional cast and design team members will be announced shortly.

"From the songwriting team of She Loves Me and Fiddler On The Roof comes a unique evening of three one-act musicals about men, women and a little thing called temptation.  The Apple Tree is based on "The Diary of Adam and Eve" by Mark Twain; "The Lady or the Tiger?" by Frank R. Stockton; and "Passionella" by Jules Feiffer, with additional book material by Jerome Coopersmith," state press notes.

The Apple Tree premiered on Broadway on October 18th, 1966 at the Shubert Theatre starring Alan Alda and Barbara Harris, directed by Mike Nichols.

Chenoweth, who was nominated for a Tony for her performance as Glinda in Wicked and who won for her Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, has also appeared on stagfe in Scapin, A New Brain, Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, in the Lincoln Center concert production of Candide, and the Encores! productions of Strike Up the Band, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever and The Apple Tree. "As I Am" and "Let Yourself Go" are her two solo CDs. She also plays Annabeth Schott on TV's "The West Wing," and most recently appeared on screen in the hit comedy R.V. Bewitched, Running with Scissors and The Pink Panther are among her past film credits, while Deck the Halls, Stranger Than Fiction, Asphalt Beach and Rapunzel Unbraided are among her upcoming films.

The production is based on the acclaimed 2005 New York City Center Encores! revival of The Apple Tree staring Chenoweth and directed by Griffin.  Visit www.NYCityCenter.org for more information.

The Apple Tree will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00PM with a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinee at 2:00PM.
