Silence speaks volumes in this poignant production, created by Toronto's latest indie, all female Production Company, Illusion, Coffee, and Poetry. Silence S'il Vous Plait is an exploration of the fleeting moments of attraction between strangers outside of a heteronormative context. When two mimes, Claudette and Jinxy, meet in the streets of Paris, a whirlwind night of romance and adventure falls victim to reality as daylight breaks. Illusion, Coffee, and Poetry have created a theatre experience that intimately explores the brief and life-changing people we love and let go.
Silence, S'il Vous Plait features emerging artists from York University who want to tell a story of an amazing adventure with an all too real conclusion. Created by Asha Deboran-Hotrum and Shannon Farrell, Silence started out as a study of the art of physical theatre with a queer lens. They wanted to delve into a different love story about the chance encounters that may not last a lifetime, but are memorable and meaningful.
Asha Deboran-Hotrum has taken on the creation, production and direction of the play and her hard work shows. A recent graduate of the York University theatre program, Asha has studied theatre in Prague with the Prague Quadrennial's, working with directors such as Phillipe Quesne. Shannon Farrell came forward with the initial concept, musing over the idea that sometimes, love isn't meant to stay. She studied playwriting under Judith Rudakoff and is graduating from York.
Silence S'il Vous Plait focuses on making the most of our moments of vulnerability and on taking advantage of uncertain opportunity. Devised by strong, queer female artists, Illusion, Coffee, and Poetry have created an honest portrayal of their experience of LGBTQA+ love, and letting go.
