With a trio of powerful leading performances from Ben Van Diepen, Ciaran McCarthy and Laura Matula, the Boiler Room Theatre production of Jonathan Larson's Pultizer Prize-winning Rent may well be the finest interpretation of the groundbreaking musical we've ever seen. Certainly, we've never seen a more passionate or more engaging mounting of Rent and the cast assembled by director Corbin Green deserve every accolade possible for the obviously heartfelt rendering they give Larson's work. RENT is Larson's reworking of Puccini's La Boheme, and tells the stories of young artists and musicians who are struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side, while dealing with the spectre of AIDS. As part of their 2011 season, Bower City Theatre Company will present the Tony and Pulitzer prize winning musical Rent. Rent, Jonathan Larson's rock opera, is based loosely on Puccini's opera La Boehme. The musical follows a group of friends living in New York during the 90's, and focuses on their struggles with the love, disease and the Bohemian lifestyle. (more...)

Raleigh Run Of RENT Moved Indoors To Fletcher Hall On 7/3

The July 2 & 3 outdoor performances of the hit musical RENT have been canceled and will now take place indoors at Fletcher Hall. The move will keep those two days consistent with the rest of the run. According to Jim Lavery, Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts General Manager, it became clear the costs associated with two completely different load-ins did not make sense. (more...)
