The highly anticipated resurrection of the cult classic, written by Jonathan Larson, is being directed by Michael Greif, who directed the show's original off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The creative team includes choreographer Larry Keigwin, music supervisor Tim Weil, set designer Mark Wendland, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and projection designer by Peter Nigrini. In honor of the fresh, new Off-Broadway revival of RENT currently in previews at New World Stages, today we are taking a look back at the various incarnations of the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical by Jonathan Larson over the years - from the lighting-in-a-bottle original cast led by relative theatrical newcomers Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Daphne Rubin Vega, Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel and more, all the way up to today and the new New York revival. RENT will sell 16 seats via a lottery for each performance at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street). The tickets will be $25, cash only. All tickets include a $1.50 facility fee. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Adam Pascal & Anthony Rapp Live in Irvine, CA

On the evening of Saturday, January 29, two of the original stars of Jonathan Larsen's Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical RENT, Adam Pascal (Roger) and Anthony Rapp (Mark), shared a double-bill concert at the Barclay Theatre in Irvine, California. The concert was part of a concert tour which they launched earlier this month at Town Hall in New York. Like that show, each artist performed their own separate unique solo set before coming together at the end of the second act to perform several popular tunes from the Tony-winning musical that helped propel their status as bona fide stage stars. RIALTO CHATTER: RENT Headed Back to New York?

In today's New York Post, Michael Riedel is reporting that RENT is headed back to New York, this time to open off-Broadway in a new production at New World Stages. The production will open in June, after the Tony awards, and will be directed by original RENT director, Michael Greif, and produced by Allan S. Gordon, who was one of the producers of the show's original production. They're said to be seeking an all new cast of unknowns for the show. (more...)
