NEWSIES' Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Composer Alan Menken and More Set for 2013 Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta

Oscar and Tony Award-winning composer Alan Menken, director Jeff Calhoun and producer Thomas Schumacher will join Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger and Mike Faist, stars of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical, Newsies, for a special presentation to 4,000 students and teachers representing 82 groups from 23 states at the 2013 Junior Theater Festival, it was announced today by Theater of the Stars President Nick Manos and Timothy Allen McDonald, founding Chairman of iTheatrics. The Junior Theater Festival is being held January 18, 19 and 20 at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta. (more...)

Photo Flash: Dolly Parton Visits NEWSIES!

Last night, eight-time Grammy Award winner and 2009 Tony® Award nominee Dolly Parton, attended a performance of Newsies, the Tony® Award winning new American musical, and visited with the cast backstage afterwards. Parton attended with the show's director, Jeff Calhoun. Calhoun first worked with Parton when he was cast as a dancer in the 1982 film version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and recently directed both the US and UK tours of her Broadway musical 9 to 5. NEWSIES Wins ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus!

NEWSIES, Disney's popular new musical about a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenage "newsies", will receive Actors' Equity Association's Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs (ACCA) Sixth Annual ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus. The honor is the only industry accolade of its kind and honors the distinctive talents and contributions made by the original chorus members of a Broadway musical. The award will be presented in the Actors' Equity Association Council Room, overlooking Times Square, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. (more...)

Disney Broadway Shows Scheduled to Resume Normal Performance Week Wednesday, 10/31

You've seen the League's announcement that alll of tomorrow (Tuesday) night's Broadway performances are cancelled. It's important to note that, for Mary Poppins, Newsies and The Lion King at least, the normal performance week is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. (more...)

Since bursting onto Broadway in March, Newsies set and then broke five Nederlander Theatre house records on its way to becoming the best selling new musical of the spring. The show received 23 major theatrical nominations -- including eight Tony Award nods -- and won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Score and Choreography.
