Throughout 2012, Austria is celebrating the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt with exhibitions devoted to his work. Several Viennese museums, including the Albertina, the Belvedere, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Leopold Museum, and the Wien Museum, are honoring different aspects of Klimt’s extraordinary legacy. The Neue Galerie is joining in these celebrations with a special summer 2012 installation of his work. “Gustav Klimt: 150th Anniversary Celebration” will be on view at the Neue Galerie from May 24 to August 27, 2012. Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts has announced its 2012-13, 24th Season. Including LE POÈME HARMONIQUE IN “VENEZIA,” on opening night, eight intriguing composer portraits, featuring John Cage, Jonathan Harvey, Olga Neuwirth, Sofia Gubaidulina, Enno Poppe, Rebeecca Saunders, Oliver Knussen and Julio Estrada. Bach, Revisted, highlights innovators, baroque and modern alike, featuring Jennifer Koh teaming up with mentor Jaime Laredo, harpsichordist Kristian Bezuidenhout and Ensemble Signal playing Bach, Rebel and Michael Gordon, and pianist Christopher Taylor juxtaposing Bach and Rzewski. (MCCE) will present the world premiere of a commissioned piece by Matt McBane, winner of its 2012 Composer Search paired with a work by Andrew Sterman, MCCE’s Composer-in-Residence for 2005-06. The concert will take place at The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3pm and features MCCE members Tamara Keshecki (flute), Clarice Jensen (cello) and Anthony Turner (baritone) with guest artists Andrew Sterman (alto saxophone), Oren Fader (guitar), a guest bassist and percussionist. Pat Sajak and Vanna White made the announcement today live on WABC-TV, Channel 7, while on location in Central Park.The shows will tape on March 15, 16, 18 & 19 and will be broadcast nationally in May 2013. Shows are at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. There is a $25 cover and $10 minimum at tables, and a $5 cover at the bar. Food is available. Hammer, Chisel, Drill: Noguchi's Studio Practice, an exhibition that explores Isamu Noguchi's working methods, opens at The Noguchi Museum on October 3, 2012. Featuring a variety of hand- and industrial tools, along with photographs, select sculptures, and film footage, the exhibition will illuminate Noguchi's practice in six of the studios he used during the course of his career. These were located in Manhattan and Queens, New York; Querceta and Pietrasanta, Italy; and Kanagawa prefecture and Mure, Japan. Hammer, Chisel, Drill will also briefly consider Noguchi's time as an assistant in the Paris studio of Constantin Brancusi, which was critical not only as the younger artist's first exposure to direct stone-carving, but also for its influence on the way he would set up his own studios.
