Gustav Klimt: 150th Anniversary Celebration Opens at Neue Galerie NY Today, 5/24

Throughout 2012, Austria is celebrating the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt with exhibitions devoted to his work. Several Viennese museums, including the Albertina, the Belvedere, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Leopold Museum, and the Wien Museum, are honoring different aspects of Klimt’s extraordinary legacy. The Neue Galerie is joining in these celebrations with a special summer 2012 installation of his work. “Gustav Klimt: 150th Anniversary Celebration” will be on view at the Neue Galerie from May 24 to August 27, 2012. Columbia University's Miller Theatre Announces 2012-2013 Season

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts has announced its 2012-13, 24th Season. Including LE POÈME HARMONIQUE IN “VENEZIA,” on opening night, eight intriguing composer portraits, featuring John Cage, Jonathan Harvey, Olga Neuwirth, Sofia Gubaidulina, Enno Poppe, Rebeecca Saunders, Oliver Knussen and Julio Estrada. Bach, Revisted, highlights innovators, baroque and modern alike, featuring Jennifer Koh teaming up with mentor Jaime Laredo, harpsichordist Kristian Bezuidenhout and Ensemble Signal playing Bach, Rebel and Michael Gordon, and pianist Christopher Taylor juxtaposing Bach and Rzewski. Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble to Present World Premiere Work by Matt McBane, 6/3

Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble, Inc. (MCCE) will present the world premiere of a commissioned piece by Matt McBane, winner of its 2012 Composer Search paired with a work by Andrew Sterman, MCCE’s Composer-in-Residence for 2005-06. The concert will take place at The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3pm and features MCCE members Tamara Keshecki (flute), Clarice Jensen (cello) and Anthony Turner (baritone) with guest artists Andrew Sterman (alto saxophone), Oren Fader (guitar), a guest bassist and percussionist. WHEEL OF FORTUNE to Tape at Madison Square Garden, 3/15-19; Shows Air May 2013

America's Favorite Game Show is returning to "The Big Apple" next spring to tape four weeks of shows in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Pat Sajak and Vanna White made the announcement today live on WABC-TV, Channel 7, while on location in Central Park.The shows will tape on March 15, 16, 18 & 19 and will be broadcast nationally in May 2013. This will mark Wheel Of Fortune's fifth on-location remote in New York City since 1988. (more...)

NEA Jazz Master Annie Ross and jazz vocal legend Andy Bey, plus other stars of the jazz and nightclub worlds, gather to salute the music of 20th-century genius Noël Coward in “ENGLAND SWINGS: Noël Coward in Jazz” at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola for two performances on Monday, June 18th. Shows are at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. There is a $25 cover and $10 minimum at tables, and a $5 cover at the bar. Food is available. Tony Award-Winning Roger Bart's THE LAST MAN Set for US Premiere at NY Shorts Fest

Tony and Drama Desk Award-Winner Roger Bart will be starring in a short film, The Last Man, making its US premiere at the NY Shorts Fest this Wednesday May 30th. Bart will star as Will, a prisoner, who is receiving chemotherapy next to a father of two. They are both at the end of their lives and realize they are more connected than they thought. (more...)

Ann Hampton Callaway Performs with Jazz Band Classic in the Allen Room Tonight, 5/23

The New York Youth Symphony’s Jazz Band Classic concludes its tenth season tonight, May 23, 2009, at 7:30pm with “Sounds From The City,” featuring soloist Ann Hampton Callaway at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Matt Holman, director, the group will perform songs from New York City with music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Frank Sinatra, as well as a big band salute to Broadway. The Adjacent Possible by Evan Weiss, commissioned through the New York Youth Symphony’s acclaimed First Music program, will receive its world premiere. (more...)

Isamu Noguchi 'HAMMER, CHISEL, DRILL' Exhibition Opens in Long Island City, 10/3

Hammer, Chisel, Drill: Noguchi's Studio Practice, an exhibition that explores Isamu Noguchi's working methods, opens at The Noguchi Museum on October 3, 2012. Featuring a variety of hand- and industrial tools, along with photographs, select sculptures, and film footage, the exhibition will illuminate Noguchi's practice in six of the studios he used during the course of his career. These were located in Manhattan and Queens, New York; Querceta and Pietrasanta, Italy; and Kanagawa prefecture and Mure, Japan. Hammer, Chisel, Drill will also briefly consider Noguchi's time as an assistant in the Paris studio of Constantin Brancusi, which was critical not only as the younger artist's first exposure to direct stone-carving, but also for its influence on the way he would set up his own studios.
