Lin-Manuel Miranda and his hip-hop/rap group, Freestyle Love Supreme, will perform at New York's Gramercy Theatre at 7:30 pm tonight, April 7. Miranda founded the group at Wesleyan University along with Bill Sherman, Anthony Veneziale, and Thomas Kail; others joined the group in New York. Exciting, passionate and historical. That's how Michael Balderrama, resident director and choreographer of In The Heights, has described the cast for the Second National Tour of the musical, who started rehearsals in New York last month. A brand new cast has been gathered to bring the award-winning show across the States. "All of them are fresh, from top to bottom, there's no one who has been on the show before," Balderrama explains. Universal Pictures Drops IN THE HEIGHTS Film

Today, the word is that Universal Pictures has removed the planned IN THE HEIGHTS movie from its projects, according to Deadline.com. Though the project carries with it only a price tag of about $37 million, Universal didn't see any firm commitments on big names in the supporting roles. (more...)

Miranda, founding president of the Hispanic Federation; Nina Garcia, the New York Times Best-Selling author and judge on hit show Project Runway, Angel Sánchez; world-renowned Latin American fashion designer; Mike Fernandez, Vice-President of State Farm Insurance; Willie Colon, internationally acclaimed recording artist and humanitarian. The night of celebration, held at the Waldorf Astoria, included a special performance by Willie Colon. Klein Hired to Adapt IN THE HEIGHTS for Film; Filming to Start in August

Variety is reporting that Marc Klein has taken over writing the adaption of In the Heights for the big screen. It was previously announced that the screenplay would be penned by the show's scribe, Quiara Alegria Hudes, but the team is looking to "give the project a fresh set of eyes." The paper also reports that Klein will be working closely with Lin-Manuel Miranda who will be reprising his starring role as they aim to start filming this August, in New York City. No other details have yet been revealed other than the expected addition of an additional song, written for the film. (more...)
