Cameron Mackintosh announced today that his acclaimed new production of Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schonberg's Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece LES MISERABLES will come to Broadway in March, 2014 at a Shubert theater to be announced. This newly re-imagined LES MISERABLES is breaking box-office records across the country and around the world and inspired filmmakers to make the immensely successful movie which has been nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and has won 3 Golden Globes including Best Picture, as well as 4 BAFTA's. The new production has been a sell-out since launching a U.S. national tour in November 2010, having already played in 64 cities throughout North America, grossing more than $130 million. BREAKING: Samantha Barks Confirmed to Perform at The Oscars

According to The Daily Mail, Samantha Barks will officially be performing at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Though it's expected that the entire cast of Tom Hooper's adaptation of LES MISERABLES will be joining Barks on stage, no others have come out and confirmed that they will appear. (more...)

BWW Interview: Ramin Karimloo on His Toronto Homecoming in LES MISERABLES in Fall of 2013

Ramin Karimloo was first bitten by the theatre bug upon seeing Colm Wilkinson in the original production of The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto in the late 80s. Since then he has gone on to play the title role in both The Phantom and Love Never Dies in London's West End, and now will come home to Toronto for the first time in the Mirvish Production of LES MISERABLES which was just announced for their 2013-2014 season. According to BBC News, the Les Miserables film soundtrack is the first cast recording to hit No. 1 on the UK and Ireland album chart in 16 years. The last movie musical to reach the top of the charts was the Evita film soundtrack, from the motion picture starring Madonna in 1997. (more...)

According to Daily Mail, the cast of the Academy Award nominated LES MISERABLES will be performing at the Oscars this February. According to whatsonstage.com the blockbuster film LES MISERABLES has surpased 'Mamma Mia!' as the biggest ever opening weekend for a movie musical in the UK. The film, which just picked up a Golden Globe Award for Best Film, brought in a record-breaking three day total of £8.13 million, beating Mamma Mia's record of £5.2 million in 2008. (more...)

So many people have been emailing me and asking me what I thought of the movie? I have not answered most because I wanted to sit with my "feelings" and make sure that what I thought came from the "right" place. But is there ever a right place when you give an opinion of a show or of some else's work? I mean who the hell am I? Is it a coincidence that I am blogging this month? Do I sit here and give my blah opinion written in black and white forever or do I slash its throat at the helm and let it all hang out? I have certainly gotten my share of evil black and white reviews, some so rotten that it felt like the critic had a personal vendetta against me. Did I deserve it? Well, it's a matter of opinion.
