An Enemy of the People - 2012 - Broadway History , Info & More

This fall on Broadway, the political is about to get very personal. In this fast-paced, two-hour thriller, Dr. Thomas Stockmann (Boyd Gaines) discovers a toxic secret that threatens the health of his entire community. The doctor expects to be hailed as a hero, but his brother, Mayor Peter Stockmann (Richard Thomas), believes the information will destroy the town, forcing the men into a passionate confrontation of political will and personal ethics.

Gaines and Thomas play the clashing brothers in this scintillating, and often surprisingly humorous, new version of Ibsens AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.

FEATURED REVIEWS FOR An Enemy of the People

An Enemy of the People
5 / 10

Rebecca Lenkiewicz's 'new version' of 'An Enemy of the People' is yet another attempt to update Henrik Ibsen's smug 1882 satire about a visionary doctor (Boyd Gaines) who becomes a pariah when he makes a discovery that threatens to gut the economy of the hypocritical small town in which he lives. (Yes, the doctor is a self-portrait of the playwright as genius.)

Richard Thomas Yells, Sneers in ‘Enemy’
4 / 10

Richard Thomas does everything but twirl his mustache as the bogeyman in the Broadway revival of “An Enemy of the People.” That’s because he doesn’t have a mustache to twirl. The other accouterments of villainy -- black top hat and bowtie framing a lip-curling sneer, cape and cane wielded with menacing flourishes -- are all accounted for in Doug Hughes’s clipped vaudeville of a production.
