As BroadwayWorld reported last week, acclaimed actor and director Brian Murray, who worked extensively on and off Broadway for more than fifty years, passed away from natural causes at the age of 80.

'Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic' is a visually breathtaking cinematic shadow play for all ages, created and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, a 2014 Guggenheim fellowship-winning filmmaker/visual artist. Inspired by the tenth century Persian epic 'Shahnameh' (The Book of Kings), it dramatizes the origin story from the tale with elaborate shadow puppets, multimedia and live actors. The production, which debuted at BAM in 2016 and was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art the same year, returns to New York next month for two days only.  It will be presented by Fictionville Studio September 7 and 8 at Kaye Playhouse, 695 Park Ave. (at 68th Street), for three performances only before it travels to China and Paris.

Walnut Street Theatre's 2017-2018 Independence Studio on 3 season opens with Broadway's tribute to a woman of song, SOUVENIR, A FANTASIA ON THE LIFE OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS. The 21st annual production of Pittsburgh CLO's A Musical Christmas Carol features returning favorites and a host of exciting new cast members, led by Pittsburgh's own Tom Atkins as Ebenezer Scrooge. Lynn Nottage attended one of the final Asolo Rep performances of her play, Las Meninas, in Sarasota on the evening of May 12, 2011. Her visit included a gathering on stage with the director and cast after their standing ovation performance.

In a comic satire of musical theatre genres, one story becomes five musicals, each in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) starts on May 4th, opens May 6th and continues through June 27th in the Walnut's Independence Studio on 3.

The enchanting musical romantic comedy, 'She Loves Me,' with all the grace and spirit that established it as one of the all-time great Broadway classics, will begin Westport Country Playhouse's 80th anniversary season runs through May 8.

Pacific Stages will follow up their debut production of Lobby Hero with the world premiere of Something Happened, by award-winning playwright L. Trey Wilson. Something Happened runs April 1 through May 16 at Pacific Stages in El Segundo and will be directed by L. Trey Wilson. The press opening begins April 8 and there will be an opening reception Saturday, April 10.

TINY KUSHNER makes West Coast premiere at Berkeley Rep, begins previews on October 16, opens October 21, and closes November 29.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the 5th annual First Look Repertory of New Work, featuring three developmental productions of new plays presented in rotation and accompanied by a series of events around the development of new work. First Look Repertory of New Work runs July 22 - August 9, 2009 in The Merle Reskin Garage Theatre, 1624 N. Halsted St. All tickets are $20.
