 The acclaimed National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish opened its limited engagement last night at New World Stages. The production, a New York Times Critic’s Pick, plays through January 1, 2023. Check out opening night photos here!

The production features Emanuelle Araujo, in the role of sarcastic Velma Kelly; Paulo Szot, as  the charming and unscrupulous Billy Flynn (a role he currently played on Broadway); and Carol Costa as the “innocent” and surprising Roxie Hart. L. Candido (Mary Sunshine), Lilian Valeska (Mama Morton) and Eduardo Amir (Amos Hart) complete the main cast.

New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia spoke it fluently as did James Cagney. Barbara Streisand can converse, and Judy Garland sang in it. Last night the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene premiered Fiddler On The Roof in Yiddish directed by Joel Grey for a VIP Opening Night audience and Gala which honored Jeffrey S. Wisenfeld, Chairman of the Folksbiene.

Doubt, A Parable, directed by Che Walker, gets its first London revival in 10 years at Southwark Playhouse, running now through 30 September. The production opens tonight, 8 September, and BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

It's the summer of 1964, and four inseparable friends form a girl group called The Bikinis, win a talent contest, and make it to the top! Now, many years and a few pounds later The Bikinis reunite for a show filled with sun and fun and all the great songs they sang on the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore.  Join them as they relive their heyday and put on a show that promises to get everyone dancing in the aisles!

Regarded as one of most popular musicals of all time, the classic My Fair Lady turns 60 and receives this month a new theatrical production signed by the Director Jorge Takla. With a great cast and live orchestra, the show - based on the classic Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw - tells the story of an aristocrat teacher, Mr. Henry Higgins, who takes up the challenge to transform the poor Eliza Doolittle, street vendor without any refinement, in a society lady. With luxurious scenery and costumes, the show will have place at the Santander Theatre, in Sao Paulo, between August 27 and November 6, 2016.

Hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille and his wife artist/author Stacia were honored on Friday at the COP 4 CAUSES 'Golden Ticket' event for their years dedication to foster youth.

In its Music Circus premiere, the Disney classic musical Mary Poppins, based on the books by P. L. Travers and the beloved 1964 Disney film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, is the second show in the 2014 Music Circus season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 64th season for the venerable Sacramento institution. It's always hard for me to come up with the best of anything in entertainment. With my backstage theatre background, I'm obsessed with detail, and I can't simply sit back and enjoy any show. As a writer, I'm obsessed with the words, the sentence, the grammar, etc., and I can never read strictly for pleasure. In the pressure cooker of coming up with the best picks for 2012, I have a mixed pot.

On January 16, 1964 theatergoers at the St. James Theatre first experienced what was to become perhaps the most memorable scene in musical comedy, when the curtains part atop the stairs of the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant and Dolly Levi appears in her red Freddy Wittop gown to begin her descent to 'rejoin the human race.' Forty-seven years (not to mention over 5,000 performances) later and 3,000 miles away, patrons of the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles were able to revisit a little bit of theatrical history as Jerry Herman's first Dolly, Ms. Carol Channing, again entered through parting red curtains and took the stage wearing her original 1964 gown in celebration of her 90th birthday.

Like Lansbury and Zeta-Jones, all of the performers have either originated Sondheim characters or performed them in notable revivals. As a group, the gala's performers have appeared in more than 75 Sondheim shows. The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, highlighted numbers from shows for which Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and featured a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Sondheim.
