Photo Flash: Children's Book Day Set for Sunnyside in Tarrytown, Sept 15

Kate Feiffer, author of No Go Sleep!, will join Alyssa Capucilli, author of the Biscuit series, and dozens more children's book authors and illustrators at Children's Book Day, a one-day gala on Saturday, Sept. 15, devoted to children's literature. In all, more than 60 children's book authors and illustrators will take part in this 12-6 p.m. event which is filled with readings, demonstrations, magic, music, and book signings at Washington Irving's Sunnyside. Photo Flash: Hunter Foster Visits URINETOWN Workshop at STAGES St. Louis' Performing Arts Academy

STAGES Performing Arts Academy expanded their teen performance workshop this Summer by moving to the state-of-the-art Skip Viragh Center for the Arts at Chaminade College Preparatory School. The three-week program features professional teachers, directors, and guest artists from around the country, resulting in a final full-scale production of Urinetown: The Musical. As STAGES Performing Arts Academy teens neared the end of the rehearsal process, they were greeted by a surprise audience member. On August 2nd, Hunter Foster, who originated the lead role of Bobby Strong in the first Broadway production of Urinetown, stopped in to catch the final dress rehearsal of the show, offering a very special "break a leg" to the young cast. The Delaware River Theatre Collective is set to present the first of its two summer productions in July when the group brings the Gilbert and Sullivan comic musical, The Pirates of Penzance, to the Stephen J. BWW JR: HELP WANTED: PIRATES! Babysitters, Pirates and Artists, Oh My!

Over at MamaDrama, we've had the honor of working with PLAYTIME, the first-ever childcare service for theatre-going parents. We've been wowed time and again by the incredible new work going on at Playwrights Horizons, Signature Theatre and the Westside Theatre while our kids enjoyed an afternoon or evening of the arts with the incredible "Artisitters" from Sitters Studio…the babysitting service that sends professional artists, actors, musicians, dancers and the like to your home to care for and inspire your child. So when I heard that Sitters Studio founder Kristina Wilson was producing a play for kids, my little guy and I couldn't wait to check it out. (more...)

In Dora's Pirate Adventure, Dora, her best buddy Boots the Monkey, and the rest of their friends embark on an exciting trip to Treasure Island. The audience helps them navigate over Dancing Mountain, through Silly Singing Bridge and to confront the Pirate Piggies. Along the way, the audience will use their map-reading, counting, musical and language skills to successfully help Dora reach the treasure. All ends happily onstage with a 'yo-ho-ho!' (more...)
