On Thursday, February 14, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and wife Jamie joined hundreds of Brooklyn sweethearts who have been married to one another for 50 years or more, including Kings County District Attorney Charles 'Joe' Hynes and bride Patricia, who will celebrate a half century of wedded bliss this October. The New Group presents the first production in its 2012-2013 season, the world premiere of The Good Mother, a new play by Francine Volpe. Directed by Scott Elliott, this production features Mark Blum, Darren Goldstein, Gretchen Mol, Alfredo Narciso and Eric Nelsen. Previews began October 31 in advance of an Official Opening Night tomorrow, November 15 at 7:00pm. The limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated through December 22 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street / Acorn Theatre). Four brand new musicals were written, cast, rehearsed and performed in a single day, featuring an star-studded line up of Broadway performers, composers, writers, directors, choreographers and musical directors. Creative director Ted Sperling (musical director of Light in the Piazza, South Pacific and Guys & Dolls), led some of the theatre's brightest talent from Broadway, film and television as they collaborated under one roof, in one day, to create original musical theatre.
