The Media Theatre held its annual fundraising Gala on Saturday evening, February 23. The event is a celebration of the professional music theatre company's mission, with a focus on its patrons, supporters, and advocates. Dave White, of Delaware County Council, introduced the evening with special mention given to the theatre's educational opportunities and The State Street Miracles. Photo Blast from the Past: Bea Arthur and Hal Linden

Today, we're featuring Bea Arthur and Hal Linden circa 1981. Arthur's stage roles included Lucy Brown in the 1954 Off-Broadway premiere of Marc Blitzstein's English-language adaptation of Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera, Yente the Matchmaker in the 1964 premiere of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway, and a 1966 Tony Award-winning portrayal of Vera Charles to Angela Lansbury's Mame. She reprised the role in the 1974 film version opposite Lucille Ball. In 1981, she appeared in Woody Allen's The Floating Light Bulb. (more...)

Further casting has been announced for the British premiere of Jerry Herman's musical DEAR WORLD, starring Betty Buckley and Paul Nicholas and directed and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, from 4 February - 30 March 2013, with a press night on Wednesday 13 February. (more...)

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) celebrated the 40th anniversary of the founding of its Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) with the kickoff of the recently formed HSMT Alumni Association. Graduates and supporters of the HSMT program from the past four decades joined for an evening of celebration and reunion as they mixed and mingled amidst the backdrop of the HSMT rehearsal rooms, complete with wine and hors d'oeuvres from City Kitchen. The Media Theatre held a fundraising Season Preview Event in Rose Valley Saturday September 22. The evening featured the premier unveiling of the professional music theatre's new Cunningham baby grand piano. Resident music director Tom Fosnocht christened the piano as the supreme vocals of Broadway's Tony nominated actress Ann Crumb filled the main room of the home of Lee and Carol Thaler Roberts.
