Civic Theatre of Allentown will produce the Pulitzer-winning musical 'Next to Normal,' which will run from May 3 to May 19. Civic's Artistic Director William Sanders directs this 'brave, breathtaking' (The New York Times) rock musical written by Brian Yorkey and lyrics by Tom Kitt. Featuring an electrifying pop-rock score of more than 30 songs, 'Next to Normal' is an intense, tender, human scale musical that aims straight for the heart. The most recent show featured a cast reunion of the entire original cast of Maltby & Shire's Starting Here, Starting Now: Loni Ackerman, George Lee Andrews, and Margery Cohen, who shared stories about creating the show and singing numbers that they originated in 1977. R&B pop phenomenon Mindless Behavior, Miss USA Nana Meriwether, model Damaris Lewis, hip hop pioneer and talent show creative director Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, Broadway star Tony Vincent (American Idiot, NBC's 'The Voice'), The Rockettes and Knicks City Dancers watched and listen as the kids rehearsed their singing, dancing, and/or hip hop acts.
