The Importance of Being Earnest Photos - Off-Broadway

As BroadwayWorld reported last week, acclaimed actor and director Brian Murray, who worked extensively on and off Broadway for more than fifty years, passed away from natural causes at the age of 80.

As we enter the new year, it is important to remember those we have lost in the preceding twelve months. From actors, to directors, to international pop stars, join us as BroadwayWorld remembers all the great men we lost in 2016.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's Classic Company, commences the second half its 2016-17 season with Agatha Christie's classic mystery thriller, And Then There Were None. The production will be performed in the company's intimate and audience-friendly home at the Hanna Theatre, Playhouse Square, February 26 - March 20, 2016. Charles Fee, GLT's Producing Artistic Director, directs the production. And Then There Were None is presented through special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT), Cleveland's Classic Company, commences the second half its 2014-15 season with Ira Levin's murder mystery masterpiece, Deathtrap. The production will be performed in the company's intimate and audience-friendly home at the Hanna Theatre, PlayhouseSquare, now through March 16, 2014. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Cincinnati's stage for the classics, presents William Shakespeare's poetic history 'Richard II', playing from tonight, January 11- February 3, 2013. This production is directed by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Producing Artistic Director Brian Isaac Phillips and features CSC Resident Ensemble Members Giles Davies, Jim Hopkins and Brent Vimtrup. Osip Theatre presents Celebrity Night at Café Red, written and directed by Lily Bevan, at Trafalgar Studios 2, now through 6 October, 2012. Celebrity Night at Café Red is being co-produced by Osip Theatre and Lucy Pattison, with assistant direction from Hamish MacDougall, lighting design by Christopher Nairne, sound design by Emma Laxton, set design by Giuseppe Belli and costume design by Emma Belli. Barrington Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Producing Director Richard M. Parison, Jr., presents the New England premiere of Matthew Lopez's drama, The Whipping Man.

The scarlett theatre/film project, Robert E. Schneider and Jack Thomas/Bulldog Theatrical will present STUCK by Jessica Goldberg at The Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row from February 11 - 21. Marshall Pailet (The 49 Project) will direct the 90-minute play starring Anthony Alessandro, Steven Hauck, Kate Kearney-Patch, Kate MacCluggage and Athena Masci.

Thea Sharrock will direct Clare Higgins in the title role of Mrs Klein in the first London revival of Nicholas Wright's play. Mrs Klein previews at the Almeida Theatre from 22 October 2009 with press night on 29 October 2009 and will run until 5 December 2009. Joining Clare Higgins are Nicola Walker as Paula and Kate Ashfield as Melitta. Designs are by Tim Hatley with lighting by Neil Austin and sound by Ian Dickinson.

Previews are now underway at Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) for the New York premiere of Our House, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Theresa Rebeck (The Butterfly Collection and Bad Dates at Playwrights Horizons, Broadway's Mauritius, co-author of Omnium Gatherum). A scathing new comedy that shakes up Reality TV, Our House is the final production of the theater company's 2008/2009 Season.

Lynn Redgrave stars as 'Lady Bracknell' in Paper Mill's upcoming production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Oscar Wilde's masterpiece of modern comedy will be directed by David Schweizer and is running at the Millburn theatre from January 14 through February 15, 2009. Lynn Redgrave is the Golden Globe? winner and Academy Award? nominee for Gods and Monsters (1998) and Georgy Girl (1966). Ms. Redgrave won the 2003 Drama Desk Award for Talking Heads as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. In 2006, she was nominated for a Tony Award? for Best Actress in a Play for The Constant Wife. She was also nominated for a Grammy? Award for The Witches in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for Children. Ms. Redgrave was a founding member of Britain's National Theatre, now the Royal National Theatre, under the direction of Sir Laurence Olivier. She has also written the text for Journal, A Mother and Daughter's Recovery From Breast Cancer, featuring photographs by her daughter, Annabel Clark, currently in its third printing from Umbrage Editions. The Importance of Being Earnest is about maintaining fictitious identities to avoid unwelcome social obligations. Jack Worthing's brother, Earnest, provides Jack with the excuse to escape from his dull home in the country to frolic in town. The home of Algernon Moncreiff's friend Bunbury provides a convenient locale for taking adventures in the country. The problem? Earnest and Bunbury are imaginary, created by Jack and Algernon to add a dash of excitement to their lives. Their deceptions eventually cross paths, resulting in a series of hilarious crises that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits.
