The Theatre was abuzz with excitement. The long anticipated performance by the Los Angeles Ballet Company of George Balanchines' work was upon us. February 26, 2020, a night of glorious dancing! Preceding the performance, the Artistic Director Colleen Neary gave us a brief history of the makings of these pieces to be presented, and some facts and anecdotes to boot, as she is the one who has staged this entire evening and recreated pieces she was a part of during the creation of them. Talk about your inside story! Colleen Neary and Thordal Christensen founded the LAB in 2004, the one and only professional classical ballet company in Los Angeles. Of all ballet companies in existence, this company is a valuable resource for not only preserving classic ballets, but nurturing the creativity of the future work to be evolved.

Zhong-Jing Fang was promoted to soloist at the American Ballet Theatre in 2018, the first Chinese ballerina to be promoted to soloist since Yan Chen in 1993. Almost ten years ago, she tore her posterior tibial tendon in her right foot during a rehearsal. Doctors told her that the chances of her returning to the stage were extremely slim.

THE FOREIGNER is billed a two-act comedy by American playwright Larry Shue. It has been revived a great many times, from the high school to the professional level, including a well-received 2004 off-Broadway production featuring Matthew Broderick as Charlie. That description certainly sugar coats the unfortunate and shocking ending which has no place being on any stage in America.

Barbra Streisand, the multi-gifted artist added another feather to her hat on May 25th by appearing in a casual setting at this year's BookExpo America (BEA) at the Opening Night Keynote Reception. This was the most anticipated keynote speaking event that the BookExpo experienced since Bill Clinton did the same event in 2004. People lined up a day early to secure tickets to be sure that they would see Barbra, and they did - in a new light and interviewed by the equally well known in popular culture - Gayle King, who is now a New Yorker.
