BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES is Nothin' But a Good Time at Omaha Community Playhouse!

There's a party at the Bourbon Room and you're invited. Get out that 1980's gear you've got stuffed in the back of your closet and head over to ROCK OF AGES. This show is the most fun I've had in a long while! I've seen it on Broadway and more recently in Las Vegas, but the Omaha Community Playhouse production is not only on par, it exceeds them both in heart and personality. I liked it more.

FOR THE RECORD: DEAR JOHN HUGHES at West Hollywood's DBA showcases the works of acclaimed director John Hughes, by reliving his acclaimed coming of age 1980's teen flicks including Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Film and stage legend and two-time Tony Award winner Lauren Bacall, passed away last week (first reported by TMZ) at the age of 89. The legendary actress suffered a massive stroke and died at home (New York City's famous Dakota Building) according to a family member. BroadwayWorld remembers the legend below.

The Coronado Playhouse, the community's theatre, has launched an effort to help one of San Diego County's most established non-profit organizations, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Founded in 1980, the local Ronald McDonald House provides a 'home away from home' to families with children being treated at area hospitals for serious, often life-threatening conditions. Nearly 20,000 guests a year receive housing, meals and other crucial care and services while dealing with health crises.

A searing drama about public and private indifference to the AIDS plague and one man's lonely fight to awaken the world to the crisis. Set in the early 1980's, Larry Kramer's TONY award-winning drama THE NORMAL HEART follows Ned Weeks, a gay activist enraged at the indifference of public officials and the gay community. While AIDS ravages New York City, he confronts the personal toll of AIDS when his lover dies of the disease. This production is rated R for Very Strong Adult Language and Adult Themes.

The Broadway production of 42nd STREET won the Tony Award for Best Musical and Choreography in 1980, and Best Revival in 2001. Over the weekend, Dr. Ruth Westheimer paid a visit to the new musical 'Enter Laughing', presented by York Theater Company. Dr. Ruth is a sex therapist and author who came into celebrity in the 1980's. She has continued to support the American theater and has participated in several events for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and 'Broadway Barks'.
