Proud Haddock's The Dog Beneath The Skin will star Pete Ashmore (Arms and the Man, Watford Palace Theatre; Private Lives, Mercury Theatre; Treasure Island, Birmingham Rep) as Alan Normanand Cressida Bonas (Mrs Orwell, Old Red Lion Theatre, Southwark Playhouse; An Evening With Lucian Freud, Leicester Square Theatre; The Great Gatsby, Leicester Square Theatre) as The Dog.
It ended too soon is all I can say. I could have kept dancing for hours to the music being celebrated from the stage in MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, now being presented by 3-D Theatricals in Redondo Beach and Cerritos. For those like me who have always been a fan of wild child Jerry Lee Lewis and the sexy performance style of Elvis Presley, or the music of the man in black Johnny Cash or rock and roll pioneer Carl Perkins, get your tickets ASAP for an evening of theatre you will never forget as you act like a fly on the wall as you experience one night that changed rock and roll forever.
A populist candidate, promising to return the country to greatness, becomes president of the United States, and then all hell breaks loose in It Can't Happen Here, a new play based on Sinclair Lewis' eerily prescient 1935 novel, adapted for the stage by Tony Taccone and Bennett S. Cohen. Foothill Theatre Arts presents It Can't Happen Here, directed by Bruce McLeod, for three weeks only, now through November 19, 2017 at the Lohman Theatre, on the Foothill College Campus (at the bottom of the hill), 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Original Broadway and off-Broadway cast member Arnie Burton just departed the two-time Tony Award winning hilarious hit comedy 39 STEPS following his 1,000th performance as Man #2/Clown #2 last night, September 28th. Having originated the role in the original Broadway production, Burton returned for the current engagement at the Union Square Theatre. Cameron Pow (The Lion King) will join the cast on Wednesday, September 30th, taking over for Burton.
39 Steps opened to rave reviews on April 13, 2015 at the Union Square Theatre (100 East 17th Street), featuring original Broadway cast member Arnie Burton reprising his role of Clown #2, Billy Carter as Clown #1, recent Juilliard grad Brittany Vicars as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret, and Broadway vet Robert Petkoff as the dashing hero Richard Hannay. The show played its 100th performance at the Union Square Theatre at the 2PM matinee on Saturday, June 27, and BroadwayWorld was there for the special day. Check out photo coverage below!
Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.
The opening number 'Oh, the Thinks You Can Think' is a wonder to behold with the entire company superbly choreographed to let us know the crazy Dr. Seuss ride that awaits. And what a crazy ride it is following Horton the Elephant (David Mitrano) as he fights for the small creatures of Whoville living on a clover and the egg left behind by its mother. Horton believes, and this company proves, that a person's a person no matter how small. Trust me, the smallest actors onstage are having the time of their lives and so are their proud families in the audience.
Raven Theatre's 30th season opens with The Big Knife, directed by Michael Menendian. Opening is Monday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark, with a reception following in Raven's lobby. Get a first look at the production in the photos below!

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, continues its 35th Season with Awake and Sing!, Clifford Odets' Tony Award-winning play, directed by Amy Morton. The production runs January 21- February 28, 2010, at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie.
Westport Country Playhouse (Joanne Woodward and Anne Keefe, artistic directors, Jodi Schoenbrun Carter, managing director) will stage John Steinbeck's classic drama, 'Of Mice and Men,' directed by Mark Lamos. Peformances began October 7th and will run through November 1. Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962 and the Pulitzer Prize for his 1939 novel 'The Grapes of Wrath.' The production will honor the late Paul Newman, who was married to Westport's Artistic Director Joanne Woodward and who participated in many Westport Playhouse productions.
