On the Town Photos - Off-Broadway

I first discovered the Dollface Dames troupe of high-class, Burlesque entertainers in 2017 and have enjoyed their show-stopping style of entertainment at several venues around town since then. But 2020 brought on major changes for all in-person entertainment, so how have the Dollface Dames been keeping their unique brand of Burlesque available to audiences during the shutdown and what's next for them? To find out, I spoke with Lola Boutée who founded the group in 2008.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, stage star Phyllis Newman passed away yesterday, September 15, at the age of 86. Newman got her start in show business at 4 years old imitating Carmen Miranda in theatres and clubs. Her portrayal of Martha Vail in the Jule Styne/Comden and Green musical Subways Are For Sleeping - costumed only in a bath towel - earned her a Tony Award. Her other Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, The Apple Tree, On the Town, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Awake and Sing, Wish You Were Here, First Impressions, and her one-woman musical The Madwoman of Central Park West, which she co-authored with Arthur Laurents. She garnered a Tony Award nomination for her highly-acclaimed performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound.

Goodman Theatre presents the Chicago premiere of Lynn Nottage's Sweat, directed by Ron OJ Parson. An acclaimed Broadway hit and 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner, the production follows a group of friends in a Rust Belt town who have spent their lives sharing secrets and laughs on the factory floor. But when layoffs begin to chip away at their trust, they're pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight in this collision of race, class and friendship at a pivotal moment in America.  

An original musical with music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, it premiered on Broadway in 2008 and is the only Broadway musical ever with a cast and band entirely made of teenagers.

No matter your age, no matter your experience with the story, no matter if you believe in mermaids or not, you and your family will want to be front and center when the curtain goes up on the Paramount Theatre's magical new production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, November 23, 2016 through January 8, 2017.

LIVING FOR TODAY just presented a benefit concert entitled LFT: R&H, last night at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St). The concert was produced and directed by David Alpert (IF/THEN, The Trip to Bountiful, The Best Man) with music direction by Jason Wetzel (After Midnight). Roundabout Theatre Company announced the full cast this July for the new Broadway production of Rupert Holmes' Tony Award-winning musical comedy The Mystery of Edwin Drood. The show is set to open on November 13, 2012 and will star Stephanie J. Block as Edwin Drood. Meet the whole cast in the video and bios below!

ANNIE, the new production of the Tony Award-winning musical, went into rehearsal today in New York City with its full company. The production begins previews October 3, 2012 and opens November 8, 2012 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). Meet the full cast below!

Eric McCormack, Emmy Award winner for 'Will & Grace,' will play El Gallo, Lucas Grabeel from 'High School Musical' will play Matt, and Broadway star and Tony nominee Harry Groener will play Bellomy in 'The Fantasticks,' which concludes the 2008-2009 Reprise Theatre Company at the Freud Playhouse May 5-May 17 (press opening May 6).

On the Town, the first Broadway musical written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with a score by Leonard Bernstein, opens New York City Center's 2008-09 Encores! season on November 19, running November 19 - 23, directed by John Rando with music direction by Todd Ellison and choreography by Warren Carlyle.

On October 7th, 2008 the upcoming production of Pal Joey at the Roundabout Theatre Company held their first 'Meet and Greet' with the cast and creative team.

THE LADY IN PENTHOUSE B opened on July 25th, 2008 with book & lyrics by Peter Napolitano and music by Matthew Ward. The cast features Nancy Dussault (Into the Woods, Side by Side by Sondheim, Do Re Mi (Tony Nomination, Theatre World Award) and Bajour (Tony nomination), TV's 'Too Close for Comfort') as Lady Susan with Stephen Bienskie (Chess and Cats), Michael Cone (La Boheme, Rags and Brigadoon) Gordon Stanley (Cabaret, Ragtime and Beauty and the Beast), JD Webster (Wonderful Town, Ragtime and Showboat) and Sally Wilfert (Assassins). The show ran until July 27th.

The upcoming musical A Tale of Two Cities held a 'meet & greet' of the cast and crew on July 16th, 2008.

Sarah Uriarte Berry, Tony winner Chuck Cooper, award-winning vocalist Scott Coulter, and Broadway favorites Jason Graae and Max von Essen joined Emily Skinner, Jeff McCarthy, Terri Klausner, Noah Racey, Lorin Latarro and Melinda Sullivan at The Town Hall to present the final production of its 2007-2008 Broadway by the Year series, Broadway By The Year 1979 on Monday, June 16th. Broadway By The Year is created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for The Town Hall, now in it's 8th season.

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) presented one-night-only concert staging of The People vs. Mona, a new 'Musical Mystery Screwball Comedy' by Patricia Miller and Jim Wann on March 31st, 2008
