If anyone knows what it means to survive, it is James Fortune. Having lived through a situation of despair, Fortune has overcome the impossible and is a true testimony of faith and perseverance. This is the message he wants to share with the rest of the world. Having been a supporter since 2010, the award-winning gospel star has visited St. Jude Children's Hospital several times and performed a benefit concert, continuing to give support and love to the children there who suffer from all types and stages of cancer and other life threatening diseases. He is intimately invested in the work of the hospital and is rallying for others to do the same. (more...)

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, students in the Great Neck Arts Center's special needs 'Dinner, Music & Art' class enjoyed a treat--a screening of the 2007 movie 'Hairspray', followed by a surprise visit from the star of the film, Great Neck's own Nikki Blonsky. Ms. Lavin made her Vineyard Theatre debut earlier this season in the critically acclaimed production of Nicky Silver's play THE LYONS and will again star in THE LYONS when the play moves to Broadway next month starting April 5 at the Cort Theatre. The story of the controversial 'Mad Monk,' Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin is now the subject of the new rock musical Brother Russia, which makes its world premiere at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre. The new musical features Music by Dana Rowe and Book and Lyrics by John Dempsey - the award-winning creators behind The Fix (1998) and The Witches of Eastwick (2007). Directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, the production will star John Lescault (Signature's Art and The Lieutenant of Inishmore) as the infamous and enigmatic Rasputin, Natascia Diaz (Kiss of the Spider Woman at Signature, and Savage in Limbo at MetroStage), Doug Kreeger (Signature's The Visit), Amy McWilliams (Signature's The Witches of Eastwick and Urinetown), and Tracy Lynn Olivera (Les Misérables and Merrily We Roll Along at Signature). Erin Driscoll, Stephen Gregory Smith, Rachel Zampelli, Russell Sunday, Kevin McAllister, and Christopher Mueller round out the cast for this world premiere event. Brother Russia will play at Signature's MAX Theatre from March 6, 2012 through April 15, 2012. Tickets are now on sale. Check out production shots below! (more...)
