Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT) celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special Gala at the historic Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street) last night, May 22nd. This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, was co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. Chairmen for the event were Laurence Fishburne, John Morning and Susan Taylor. The Honorary Chair was Dr. Maya Angelou. This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, will be co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. Chairmen for the event are Laurence Fishburne, John Morning and Susan Taylor. The Honorary Chair is Dr. Maya Angelou. In addition to celebrating NFT's vital contribution to the arts internationally, the Gala will feature special awards for 13 individuals that changed the cultural life of our nation: Sidney Poitier, Ntozake Shange, Ruby Dee, Alicia Keys, Mayor David Dinkins, Imhotep Gary Byrd, George Faison, Amiri Baraka, Rev. Beck Center for the Arts proudly continues its holiday tradition of fine family entertainment with its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, on the Mackey Main Stage, December 3, 2010 through January 2, 2011. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with select Thursday evening and Saturday matinee performances. A special Wednesday evening performance will take place on December 29. There are no performances on December 24, 25, or January 1.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre will present Knock Me a Kiss by Charles Smith at their home at Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center/Recital Hall (466 Grand Street). Performances began November 11 with Opening Night set for Sunday, November 21. Performances continue through December 5 only. Chuck Smith directs a cast that features Erin Cherry, André De Shields, Gillian Glasco, Morocco Omari, Sean Phillips, and Marie Thomas. Knock Me a Kiss has set design by Anthony Davidson, costume design by Ali Turns, lighting design by Shirley Prendergast, and sound design by Bill Toles. (more...)

Yesterday, June 30, American Hasidic Jewish reggae musician, Matisyahu, performed a concert at the the Green Theater in Moscow, Russia. He is currently on a world tour. Since 2004, Matisyahu has released three studio albums and become a mainstream musician in the United States. Starting July 10th, Matisyahu will begin touring the U.S. with Eric Wilson & Bud Gaugh of Sublime and Rome Ramirez. BroadwayWorld brings coverage of the concert below.
