The 2008 Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights welcomed platinum recording artist and 2007 'American Idol' winner Jordin Sparks on August 19th, making her Broadway debut as Nina Rosario at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street). Sparks will play a limited 12 week engagement through Sunday, November 14, 2010. Yesterday, August 2, the cast and creative team of the 2008 Tony and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical In The Heights, starring Corbin Bleu, toasted their 1,000th performance on Broadway. Partaking in the toast was In the Heights mastermind himself, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who recently joined the Heights tour out west. On Thursday, June 3, from 1:30 - 2PM at the Richard Rodgers Theater (226 W. 46th St, New York, NY), Latino cast members from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musicals WEST SIDE STORY and IN THE HEIGHTS joined the American Heart Association for 'The Heartbeat of Broadway,' a special event to learn the new Hands-OnlyTM CPR during National CPR Awareness Week 2010. Corbin Bleu is the first star of the popular High School Musical film franchise to hit Broadway as he steps into the role of bodega owner Usnavi in IN THE HEIGHTS. Bleu will remain in the show through April 25, 2010. Jordin Sparks attended the show on Friday night, February 12th and BroadwayWorld.com was there to capture her backstage! Sparks was the youngest winner ever of AMERICAN IDOL, doing so at the age of 17 for the shows' sixth season. She has since sold more than 9 million albums worldwide. (more...)
