Hilty is best known for her for role on Smash and her portrayal of Lorelei Lee, the diamond-loving blonde made famous by Carol Channing, in the New York City Center Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes; Doralee Rhodes in Broadway's 9 to 5: The Musical (earning nominations for Lead Actress in a Musical from the Drama Desk Awards, among others); and more. She made her Broadway debut as Glinda in Wicked, and went on to perform the role in a national tour and in Los Angeles. She just released her first solo album, titled 'It Happens All the Time.' Season 1 of NBC's new series about the making of a musical, SMASH, ended on Monday, May 14. The show stars Katharine McPhee (American Idol Runner-Up) as the wide-eyed, inexperienced Karen hoping for a big Broadway debut, and her rival Megan Hilty (WICKED, 9 TO 5, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) as Ivy who has had enough of being in the ensemble and wants to be a real star. Happy Birthday Carol Channing! She is the recipient of three Tony Awards (including one for lifetime achievement), a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Channing is best remembered for originating, on Broadway, the musical-comedy roles of bombshell Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and matchmaking widow Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! She also appeared in two New York revivals of Hello, Dolly!, and toured with it extensively throughout the United States. Channing also appeared in a number of movies, The First Traveling Sales Lady (1956) with Ginger Rogers, the cult film Skidoo and Thoroughly Modern Millie, opposite Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore.
