Happy Birthday, Elaine Paige! Paige was selected to play Eva Perón in the first production of Evita in 1978, which brought her to the attention of the broader public. She went on to originate the role of Grizabella in Cats and had a Top 10 hit with 'Memory', a song from the show. She then appeared in the original stage production of Chess, followed by a starring role in Anything Goes which she also co-produced. Paige made her Broadway debut in Sunset Boulevard in 1996, playing the lead role of Norma Desmond, to critical acclaim. She appeared in The King and I from 2000 to 2001, and six years later she returned to the West End stage in The Drowsy Chaperone. Most recently, she starred in Follies on Broadway.
Today in 1971, Broadway-bound Ricky Martin was born. During his career he has sold more than 60 million album copies worldwide. He is the founder of Ricky Martin Foundation (in Spanish Fundación Ricky Martin), a non-profit charity organization. Ricky Martin's exuberant 1999 single 'Livin' la Vida Loca' made him a prominent figure of Latin dance-pop. Martin got his start with the all-boy pop group Menudo; after five years with the group, he released his Spanish-language solo album, Ricky Martin, in 1991. His other studio albums include: Me Amarás (1993), A Medio Vivir (1995), Vuelve (1998), Sound Loaded (2000), Almas del Silencio (2003), Life (2005), and Música + Alma + Sexo (2011). In 1996, Martin starred in the Broadway's Les Misérables to play the romantic lead, Marius.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced a special Cabaret evening of Homemade Fusion, a concert of songs by Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond. Homemade Fusion will be presented at WaterTower Theatre Friday, August 12 and 19 following the performance of Little Shop of Horrors, in association with Greyman Theatre Company. The performances will take place in the Addison Theatre Centre's upper lobby performance space at 10:30 pm. Admission is free. A cash bar will be available for both performances. Theatre icon Elaine Paige, the 'Queen of West End Musicals' who has created the roles of Eva Peron in 'Evita,' Grizabella in 'Cats,' Florence in 'Chess' and Edith Piaf in 'Piaf' and had a triumphant debut on Broadway in 1996 as Norma Desmond in 'Sunset Boulevard,' signed copies of her autobiography, 'Memories,' on Wednesday, September 22, at the Barnes & Noble Lincoln Triangle store. Elaine Paige is celebrating her illustrious career with a concert DVD entitled 'Elaine Page - Celebrating 40 Years On Stage'. The video shows material from a concert stop on Paige's 40th Anniversary Tour. The concert, entitled 'Live in Australia,' was filmed during the New Zealand/Australian tour that took place earlier this year. This specific concert took place on October 31st, 2009.
