Signature Theatre announces the full cast and creative team for the DC premiere of The Scottsboro Boys directed by Signature Theatre's Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Signature's Jesus Christ Superstar, Gypsy) and choreographed by Jared Grimes (Signature's Jelly's Last Jam). John Kander and Fred Ebb's final musical collaboration premiered on Broadway in 2010 and was heralded as 'an absolute marvel' by The Associated Press. The Scottsboro Boys is centered around nine young African-American teenagers who were ripped off a train in 1931, falsely accused of a crime, hastily tried and sentenced to death in an outrageous disregard of due process. The Scottsboro Boys will run from May 22 - July 1 in Signature Theatre's intimate MAX Theatre.

It just might be the most anticipated concert event of the year; the tickets for Tony Winner Cynthia Erivo and two-time Tony Nominee Joshua Henry's one-night-only performance of The Last Five Years sold out in less than an hour on the first day of the evening's pre-sale. With the concert, which will be performed at Town Hall, only two days away, the entire team is hard at work perfecting the piece before sharing it with the lucky few who nabbed tickets. This afternoon, Jason Robert Brown, the composer of The Last Five Years, took to Facebook to share a sneak peak of one of the orchestra's final rehearsals before the big night. Check it out below!

BULLETS OVER BROADWAY Begins Previews at St. James Theatre Tonight; Meet the Cast!
The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film, will begin preview performances tomorrow, March 11 and officially open Thursday, April 10, 2014 at The St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). STAGE TUBE: On This Day 10/31- THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS
Today in 2010, The Scottsboro Boys opened at the Lyceum Theatre, where it ran for 49 performances. The Scottsboro Boys is a musical with a book by David Thompson, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Based on The Scottsboro Boys trial, the musical is one of the last collaborations between Kander and Ebb prior to the latter's death. The musical has the framework of a minstrel show, altered to 'create a musical social critique.' Despite closing on Broadway in December 2010, the show received twelve Tony Award nominations in May 2011, but failed to win any.

Due to popular demand, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) has announced the extension of the Bay Area premiere of The Scottsboro Boys, the critically acclaimed musical based on a tragic chapter in American history. Tickets are now on sale through Sunday, July 22. Preview performances begin tomorrow, June 21, with opening night scheduled for Wednesday, June 27. Composer John Kander chatted with KGO TV about the production, and you can hear what he had to say below!

Philadelphia Theatre Company opens its 2011-2012 season with the Philadelphia premiere of John Logan's Tony Award-winning drama Red October 14-November 13 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). Directed by Anders Cato, the two-person cast features Broadway veteran Stephen Rowe and Oscar nominee Haley Joel Osment. As previously reported, the cast of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT will be performing the show stopper 'It's Raining Men' at the Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday, June 12. The performance will be broadcast as part of the ceremony on CBS. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the rehearsal run with special guest performers Paul Shaffer (who wrote the tune) and Martha Wash (the song's original songstress). Broadway Beat brings you an interview with Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, Best Featured Actor in a Musical nominees for The Scottsboro Boys. Prior to The Scottsboro Boys, Domingo starred starred as Mister Franklin/Venus of Berlin in Passing Strange, for which received an Obie Award. He reprised his roles in the film version of Passing Strange directed by Spike Lee, which made its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. In 2010, Domingo's self-penned play 'A Boy and His Soul' premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater, for which he won a GLAAD and a Lucille Lortel Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and a Drama League Award. He has also starred as Billy Flynn in Chicago. McClendon, who made his Broadway debut in The Scottsboro Boys, has appeared off-Broadway in Faith Journey. He also appeared as CC White in a 2005 Prince Music Theatre revival of Dreamgirls: The Musical in Philadelphia. His most recent theatrical project is a regional production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at the Two Rivers Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.
