Musical Theatre Network, Mercury Musical Developments and Oxford Playhouse has announced details of the 29 musicals that will be showcased in BEAM2023.  

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong climbed down a small ladder to place a foot onto the moon's surface and proclaimed, 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.' On that fateful day, with more than half a billion people worldwide watching on television, Apollo 11 became the first spaceflight to land man on the moon. Led by astronauts Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin, the mission effectively ended the Space Race and fulfilled a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy. This historic feat changed the world forever.

Boston Court Pasadena will bring another daring year of theater and music events to Southern California for their 2019 season, and welcomes the S. Mark Taper Foundation as sponsor of the 2019 theater season. Artistic Directors Jessica Kubzansky, Michael Michetti and Mark Saltzman have programmed more than 100 performances of music and theater on two stages, continuing the company's dedication to new work, reimagined classics, and both emerging and established artists.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. Daily Times). Described by CBC as a, "bawdy, bluesy, boozy rollicking night out at the theatre," the show follows the life, loves and career of blues and jazz singer Bessie Smith, called the "Empress of the Blues."

This opening statement from the introduction to The Potentate of Walking Horse alerts the reader that a fun-loving, laugh-out-loud, maybe a little dark but always entertaining, journey through the Old West is about to begin. This story, set in the 1880s and '90s, is narrated by Rufus T. Breckenridge III on his 100th birthday. Charging straight ahead from one adventure to another (sometimes under the guidance and protection of an unknown power) this tongue-in-cheek account of how the West was really won will have the reader turning pages faster than a bottom-of-the-deck draw in a crooked poker game.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) announces casting for the second week of the popular reading series, NEW WORK NOW!, running thru Sunday, September 18 in The Public's Martinson Theater (425 Lafayette Street).
