The History of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE

A new version of the classic, The Pirates of Penzance, is currently commanding the stage at Roundabout’s Todd Haimes Theatre on 42nd Street—formerly the American Airlines and before that, the Selwyn. This revisal of the beloved show is titled: Pirates! The Penzance Musical.

The Blue Hill Troupe, Ltd., New York City's only philanthropic theater group, will close its 98th season April 27 - May 1 with six performances of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer, the duo's third collaboration and first full-length operetta. Performances will take place at El Teatro of El Museo del Barrio, 1230 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

Expect fireworks to shoot from the strings during a breathtaking performance by young star-on-the-rise, Arnaud Sussmann, as he joins Music Director Carl St.Clair and Pacific Symphony for the second concert of the 2016-17 Classical Season celebrating 10 years in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. While Sussmann performs Mozart's most beloved violin concerto, his Third, the orchestra delivers Tchaikovsky's astonishing Symphony No. 4, which the composer described as "a reflection of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony."

?The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in collaboration with the Manhattan School of Music and Oratorio Society of New York, presents the world premiere of a transcription for organ, vocal soloists, and choruses, of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8, on Thursday, April 7th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan. This event follows the two performances of the symphony in its original orchestration at the Cathedral on February 24th and 25th.

Sumptuous scenery, costumes, and lighting, and an achingly beautiful Tchaikovsky score, set the stage for the ethereal corps de ballet and the ultimate challenge for ballerinas all over the world—the dual role of Odette, trapped in the body of a white swan until the oath of her true love sets her free; and Odile, the “Black Swan” temptress. With an added performance on opening weekend, Swan Lake runs for nine performances only, from tonight, April 10 through 19 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.
