BWW Reviews: Peabody Opera House Presents Charming Production of MARY POPPINS
by Chris Gibson - May 9, 2012

The touring production of MARY POPPINS that's currently gracing the stage of the Peabody Opera House is “practically perfect”, featuring eye-popping special effects, a glorious set, and terrific performances that manage to capture the spirit of the 1964 Disney film, as well as the P.L. Travers books that inspired it. While some of the more beloved elements from the movie are noticeably absent, they've been replaced with sequences that are every bit as magical and engaging. Though the staging is a bit cramped, this is a spectacular show that appeals to both children and adults. And, I should know because I brought along my six-year old son, and he loved it. (more...)

Dixon Place will present the world premiere of Rachel Klein's Symphony of Shadows: A Tale From the Land Beyond the Veil on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from June 8 to at 7:30pm at Dixon Place / 161A Chrystie Street. This movement-based spectacular tells the story of a woman combating a variety of sleep disorders, phantasmagorical night terrors, hypnotic horrors, and other, visually stunning conjurings from the subconscious depths of her own disturbed mind. Symphony of Shadows merges striking elements of circus and aerial arts, dance and movement, burlesque, and operatic productions to vividly illustrate its storyline in a genre defying form, which "evokes a live-action silent film." BWW Reviews: Gaslight Dinner Theatre Serves Up Some Hot Dishes in CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES
by Jeffrey Ellis - May 12, 2012

It makes no difference the region in which you were raised or now live, nor does the church in which you grew up or now worship and, seemingly, it doesn’t matter what your ethnic heritage is: There is a commonality, a universality that binds us all together as a society. And while all of that is a given, it’s driven home with the gentle humor and the good graces of Church Basement Ladies, the sweetly evocative and sometimes hilarious musical onstage at The Gaslight Dinner Theatre, in a warmly acted production directed by Nathan W. Brown. (more...)
