Rebecca Lazier's COMING TOGETHER/ATTICA to Debut at The Invisible Dog, 6/13

On Thursday, June 13 (7 + 9 pm) at The Invisible Dog in Brooklyn, choreographer Rebecca Lazier and indie-classical ensemble Newspeak present the first US performances of Coming Together/Attica, a site-specific setting of Frederic Rzewski's iconic minimalist scores written following the 1971 prison riots in upstate New York. Lazier's dancers are Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener (formerly of Merce Cunningham Dance Company); Asli Bulbul, most recently from Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; Jennifer Lafferty, who is featured in the work of Beth Gill and Yasuko Yokoshi; Pierre Guilbault; and Christopher Ralph. (more...)

Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey have announced casting for the new NYC production of their play Bill W. and Dr. Bob, about the founding of AA, which begins July 8 at the Soho Playhouse. Seth Gordon (Associate Artistic Director, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; Producer/Director Primary Stages, NYC; director of the acclaimed production of Bill W. and Dr. Bob at the Cleveland Play House in 2010) will direct an ensemble of actors who have garnered acclaim on and off Broadway. Dialogue with Three Chords and Soho Gallery for Digital Art Conclude Comic Book Round Table, 5/8

Dialogue with Three Chords teams up with the Soho Gallery for Digital Art in New York City to present theatre inspired by comic books on May 8 as the final installment of the Soho Gallery's five week Comic Book Round Table (CBRT) series of events. "The Last Days of the Brave and Bold" from playwright Stephen Gracia stages an imagined conversation between William Marston, creator of the DC Comics heroine Wonder Woman and Dr. Frederic Wertham, champion of comic book censorship. The short play is directed by Michael LoPorto as is the curtain raiser monologue, "A People's History of Super Heroism." The audience is invited to attend a party to celebrate the CBRT series that will follow the show, along with panelists from previous CBRT events. The performance starts at 7pm at the Soho Gallery for Digital Art located at 138 Sullivan Street in Manhattan. Bang on a Can to Set Out on Simultaneous Tours to Europe, China and Mexico, May 2013

This May, Bang on a Can is producing three simultaneous international touring programs: in Europe featuring the renowned Bang on a Can All-Stars; in Beijing, China featuring the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra combined with a Festival Ensemble of musicians culled from its annual Summer Festival at Mass MoCA, and in Mexico featuring its renegade mobile ensemble Asphalt Orchestra.
