Tennessee Williams One-Acts to Wrap UW Drama's 2012-13 Season, 5/29-6/9

UW School of Drama presents five one-act plays by Tennessee Williams, directed by MFA directing candidates Leah Adcock-Starr and Tina Polzin and featuring performers from the School of Drama's graduate and undergraduate programs. Previews begin Wednesday, May 29 at the Glenn Hughes Penthouse Theatre. Opening Night is Friday May 31 and the production runs through Sunday, June 9. (more...)

Alan Kaufman Presents on Allen Ginsberg Exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum

The first time Alan Kaufman met Ginsberg, in the early '70s, the younger writer was an undergraduate at Queens College and heard that the poet would be reading at Columbia and rushed over to hear him. Later, Kaufman worked with Ginsberg throughout the '90s, occasionally traveling with him to conferences abroad. In Kaufman's memoir, Drunken Angel, he featured Allen Ginsberg as a mentor and friend. The National Tour of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical JERSEY BOYS, the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, welcomes Nick Cosgrove (Frankie Valli) and Nicolas Dromard (Tommy DeVito) beginning June 4 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They will join a company that includes Brandon Andrus (Nick Massi) and Jason Kappus (Bob Gaudio) as The Four Seasons, with Barry Anderson and Thomas Fiscella. The Salt Lake City premiere engagement ofJERSEY BOYS will play June 4-15 at the Capitol Theater. Houston Symphony to Perform ROMEO & JULIET OVERTURE at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6/28

On June 28, the Houston Symphony will perform a free concert as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will feature the famous Romeo and Juliet Overture by Tchaikovsky, followed by popular works from Mendelssohn and Schumann. Led by American conductor Case Scaglione, the concert will also feature pianist Kuok-Wai Lio. Born in Macau, Kuok-Wai has gained worldwide recognition performing with various orchestras and for multiple festivals and competitions. Kuok-Wai will be making his Houston debut performing Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G Minor. (more...)

Houston Symphony to Play Works by Mozart and More at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6/22

On June 22, music lovers can hear another free concert by the 100-year-old Houston Symphony at Miller Outdoor Theatre as part of their ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will feature popular works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. Led by associate conductor Robert Franz, the concert will also feature cello soloist Christine Lamprea, a native of San Antonio and winner of the 2013 Sphinx Competition, who will make her debut with the Houston Symphony performing Tchaikovsky's technically challenging Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra.
