THE ADDAMS FAMILY Plays 5th Avenue Theatre for Halloween, 10/24-11/11

Just in time for Halloween, the first national tour of the new musical The Addams Family, will make its Seattle premiere October 24-November 11, 2012 at The 5th Avenue Theatre. Based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, this smash Broadway hit brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. Arena Stage to Present PULLMAN PORTER BLUES, Starring E. Faye Butler, This November

Following its celebrated opening at Seattle Repertory Theatre, Pullman Porter Blues travels across the country to sweep D.C. audiences along for a ride in its world-premiere co-production at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Inspired by her grandfather's work on the postal trains, playwright Cheryl L. West, whose work at Arena Stage includes Jar the Floor and Play On!, returns with the tale of three Pullman train porters whose journey is underscored by Midwest blues songs, including "Sweet Home Chicago" and "This Train." Directed by Lisa Peterson (Arena's The Rainmaker and The Quality of Life), Pullman Porter Blues runs November 23, 2012 - January 6, 2013 in the Kreeger Theater. (more...)

BWW Blog: SCANDALOUS' Elizabeth Ward Land - The New Normal Part 2

Another week of SCANDALOUS rehearsals and previews. A lot of changes planned for this week. So far, I'm really proud of our creative team. They have managed to cut over 15 minutes off the show, tightened its focus and its storytelling, and been very brave with the cuts. Last week we even cut a song, DEMON IN A DRESS, which was sung by two-time Tony winner George Hearn (he was so gracious about it - a fine example of professionalism. We all worship and adore him). But by the end of last week, we were all pretty worn out. The combination of an already nearly impossible schedule during previews, and then the stress of hurricane Sandy and its transportation challenges was a lot for even the hardiest of theatre folk! 5th Avenue New Works Program Seeks Musical Theatre Writers and Composers; Deadline 12/15

The 5th Avenue Theatre is looking for Pacific Northwest musical theatre writers and composers to join its new 5th Avenue Writer's Group. A part of The 5th's New Works program, the Writer's Group seeks to cultivate the next generation of musical theatre writers, right in our own backyard. Under the mentorship of 5th Avenue professionals, three participating teams will grow into savvy, creatively driven writers and composers ready to take their musical theater projects to the next level. The 5th Avenue Theatre is now accepting applications for participation through December 15. (more...)

Kathie Lee Gifford's THE AIMEE PROJECT - Formerly SAVING AIMEE - Set for Broadway Opening This Fall?

According to an Equity casting notice, Kathie Lee Gifford, David Friedman and David Pomeranz new musical, THE AIMEE PROJECT will open on Broadway sometime this fall at a theater to be announced. According to the notice, David Armstrong will helm, alongside Joel Fram as the musical director and Lorin Latarro as the choreographer. Rehearsals are listed as beginning in September of 2012. Katie Holmes to Return to Broadway in Theresa Rebeck's DEAD ACCOUNTS

KATIE HOLMES will star in Theresa Rebeck's new play, DEAD ACCOUNTS, a five character comedy, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. The play will open on Broadway this fall at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street) produced by Jeffrey Finn. (more...)

The York Theatre Company will present a developmental lab of two short operas, Mardi Gras and The Last Word both composed by Mildred Kayden. Directed by Bill Castellino and with music direction by Christopher McGovern, the 3-member company features Jason Mills, Rebecca Pitcher and Tom Souhrada. Performances are set for February 2 at 2:30pm & 8:00pm and February 3 at 2:30pm at The York Theatre Company in Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). (more...)

Two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz will join Katie Holmes on Broadway this fall in DEAD ACCOUNTS, the new comedy by Theresa Rebeck, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. This limited engagement of DEAD ACCOUNTS, produced by Jeffrey Finn, John N. Hart Jr., David Mirvish, and The Shubert Organization, will begin previews on Saturday, November 3 and open Wednesday, November 28 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). (more...)

5th Avenue Theatre Celebrates Tony Nominations for SCANDALOUS and A CHRISTMAS STORY

The announcement of Tony Award nominations raised a round of cheers this morning in the Emerald City as The 5th Avenue Theatre's Broadway hit A Christmas Story, The Musical received three nods from the American Theatre Wing, including Best Musical. Additionally, Carolee Carmello received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson, which premiered at The 5th in 2011 as Saving Aimee.
