Manhattan Theatre Club will celebrate Artistic Director Lynne Meadow's 40th anniversary as the visionary and artistic leader of the organization with a special tribute on Monday, June 18. The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman (261 West 47th Street). Music and Lyrics by Brad Alexander, Daniel Aquisto, Deirdre Broderick, Helen Chayefsky, Richard Chiarappa, Van Dean, David Ganon, Keith Gordon, Bruce Keisling, Jim Lochner, Margaret Rose, Dan Shore, Shawn Sturnick, and Eddie Sugarman, EVERYTHING ABOUT SCHOOL (ALMOST) will be directed and choreographed by Joanna Greer. Mustard Seed Theatre Opens 2012 with Athol Fugard's PLAYLAND 2/2-2/12

This tense two-man play,Playland, features Charlie Barron and J. Samuel Davis (seen as Judas and Jesus in Mustard Seed's recent production of Godspell). Barron plays Gideon, a soldier released from the war but not from his bitter memories, who comes to a carnival on New Year's Eve in search of hope. His encounter with Martinus (Davis), the carnival's night watchman, sparks an intense battle of wills. With adult language and situations, this play exposes difficult truths while searching for the spark of human connection that might just change the world. (more...)


BWW Reviews: Mustard Seed Theatre's Taut Production of PLAYLAND

Mustard Seed Theatre continues their season with playwright Athol Fugard's Playland, and the location of the play affords the company a chance to be very creative with the set design (Courtney Sanazaro). But, this is a dark, although it brightens just as the sun rises, tale of border wars and Apartheid, all wrapped up rather neatly in a pretty package by sterling performances and compelling direction. Children's Theatre Company Presents PINOCCHIO, 1/15-2/24

Greg Banks has created many highly-acclaimed adaptations for Children's Theatre Company (CTC) audiences, including Robin Hood, Huck Finn, and Romeo and Juliet. Banks returns to CTC to reimagine Carlo Collodi's classic Italian folk tale Pinocchio in what has potential to be the most invigorating theatrical event of the season. Banks' Pinocchio will feature four of the Twin Cities' most celebrated actors playing multiple roles. CTC's production of Pinocchio, like Collodi's story, will explore the magical moments when make-believe becomes real. (more...)
