Tennessee Rep Announces Schedule for Ingram New Works Festival

Tennessee Repertory Theatre has announced its schedule for the Martha R. Ingram New Works Festival. The festival will be held May 8 - 18 and will feature staged readings of new plays from four regional playwrights as well as nationally-renowned playwright Theresa Rebeck. Celebrate Memorial Day next Monday at the Lobero Theatre with an evening of great American folk music, beginning at 7:30 p.m., preceded by a buffet from Woody's Bodacious BBQ at 5:30 p.m. in the tent behind the Lobero. There's a second performance on Tuesday evening, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. 'The Lonesome Travelers in Concert' is a musical event that takes audiences on a journey down the rivers and streams of American Folk -- from the hills of Appalachia to the nightclubs of San Francisco and New York; from the 1920s to the 1960s. La Peer Donates to 'Run for Hope', 4/28

La Peer Health Systems recently contributed $300 to Our House's 2013 Run for Hope taking place on Sunday, April 28, 2013. Known for their support of humanitarian efforts, this is the 4th consecutive year that La Peer has made a donation to support such a worthy cause - grief support for those who have lost loved ones. With their support, the Los Angeles based surgical center will also be named as a Route Sponsor during the event. (more...)


Playwrights Horizons Defends Annie Baker's THE FLICK

The World Premiere production of The Flick, a new play by the heralded Obie Award-winning playwright Annie Baker (Circle Mirror Transformation, The Aliens, her recent adaptation of Uncle Vanya) is currently playing at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theatre. Originally set to play a limited engagement through Sunday, March 31, the production has extended to Sunday, April 7. The show has received 'polarizng' reactions from audiences, and Playwrights Horizons has stepped up to defend the production. In this adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale 'The Girl Without Hands,' narrated by Satan himself, a father accidentally sells his daughter to the Devil. When our heroine cleverly escapes, a lyrical love story laced with devilish humor unfolds. Lincoln Center Theater previously announced that Betsy Aidem, Blair Brown, Michael Cerveris, Anthony Cochrane, Lauren Culpepper, Alvin Epstein, Kathryn Erbe, John Glover, Jennifer B. Grace, Katie Kreisler, Stephen Kunken, Haviland Morris, Dale Place, John Procaccino, Gareth Saxe and Alan Schmuckler would be featured in the 18-member cast of its world premiere production of NIKOLAI AND THE OTHERS, a new play by Richard Nelson. The play, which was commissioned by Lincoln Center Theater, will be directed by David Cromer and will begin performances tonight, April 4 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.
