Museum of the Moving Image to Build Jim Henson Gallery; Set for Winter 2014-15 Opening

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Museum of the Moving Image, The Jim Henson Legacy, and other officials today announced that the family of Jim Henson has donated nearly 400 puppets, costumes, props, and other objects to the Museum, which will build a new gallery devoted to Henson's important and lasting creative achievements. The project, which has a fundraising goal of $5 million, is anchored by $2.75 million in funding from the City of New York for the construction of the new gallery, which is expected to open to the public in winter 2014-2015. Debbie Davies Brings 'The I Love You Project' to the 48-Hour-Neukölln Art Festival in Berlin, 6/14

The videos and photographs on display include multi-cultural participants living in Barcelona, Frankfurt, and Giessen. Images were captured by New York-based Davies using a digital microscope camera; sound recording and music composition by Germany-based Schön, and editing by New York-based Kendall Smith and Santina Amato. Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble Opens TOM THUMB, 6/7

Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble, one of New York's longest-running experimental theatres, will stage Henry Fielding's 1730 classic Tom Thumb, which is officially known as The Tragedy of Tragedies; or the Life and Death of Tom Thumb the Great. A preview is set for Thursday, June 6, 2013. The production opens Friday, June 7, 2013 and closes Sunday, June 30, 2013. Performances are scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8 p.m. There are no performances on Saturdays. The theatre is located at 549 W. 52nd Street, 3rd Floor, near 11th Ave., New York, NY 10019, subway C/E 50th St. (more...)

Burning Coal Theatre Company Announces 8-Week Classes for Adults

Burning Coal Theatre Company's artistic director, Jerome Davis, will conduct an eight week acting class based on the concepts the legendary acting teacher, Uta Hagen. The class will take place Mondays from 7 to 10 pm, June 10 through July 29th. The class is a scene study class which emphasizes ideas discussed in Ms. Hagen's landmark book Respect for Acting.
