GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL to Open in the Rep's Stackner Cabaret, 8/26
by BWW News Desk - Oct 13, 2012

Milwaukee Repertory Theater's 2012/13 Season kicks off with the wacky, award-winning musical comedy, Gutenberg! The Musical! Two men, one pianist, thirty baseball caps - and one massively misguided dream! In 1450, in Mainz, Germany, Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press; in 2012, in Nutley, New Jersey, Bud and Doug wrote a big, splashy musical about him, the evil monk trying to stop him and the beautiful girl who loved him. They may not have a cast, an orchestra or a clue, but with an unending supply of enthusiasm, they're pitching their hilarious, 16-song epic to Broadway producers who just might fulfill their bright-eyed ambitions! The play is written by Scott Brown and Anthony King with original Music Direction and Arrangements by T. O. Sterrett. and will be directed by Rep Associate Artist Laura Gordon, who directed last season's delightful production of In the Next Room or the vibrator play. Gutenberg! The Musical! features comedic actor and Rep Associate Artist Gerard Neugent, former Milwaukee Rep Acting Intern Eric Damon Smith and frequent Rep collaborator Musical Director/Pianist Paul Helm. Gutenberg! The Musical runs in the Stackner Cabaret from August 24 - October 14, and opens Sunday, August 26. (more...)

BWW Reviews: MEMORY HOUSE - Astounding, Emotionally Powerful Acting Saves Shaky Script
by David Clarke - Jan 21, 2013

Spring is fast upon us and high school seniors will soon be getting their acceptance letters for universities in the mail. They have put in hours of hard work in their classes, extracurricular activities, doing community service, and writing those dreaded and trite essays for college admissions boards to review. Hopefully. (more...)

Main Street Theater Opens MEMORY HOUSE, 1/17
by BWW News Desk - Jan 2, 2013

Sometimes we, as human beings, are so trapped between the hurt from our past and the utterly overwhelming nature of how to move forward into our future that we are frozen, locked in place, unable to see a way out of the dark, unable to connect with those we love most. Kathleen Tolan's Memory House captures that moment in time, that frozen moment for mother and daughter Maggie and Katia. It's heartbreaking, real, and even funny in its portrayal of this relationship. Main Street Theater's production is the regional premiere of Memory House. (more...)

Miller Theatre Presents HOUSE OF DREAMS, 3/3
by BWW News Desk - Feb 6, 2013

An imaginative multimedia concert, Tafelmusik's House of Dreams takes the audience on a journey through five homes in five European cities where, in the 17th and 18th centuries, exquisite works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Marais were performed in intimate settings against a backdrop of private collections of paintings by Vermeer, Canaletto, and Watteau. With narration, projected images of the paintings and homes, and music dynamically performed from memory, House of Dreams recreates the concert experience at the intersection of Baroque music and art.
