The 75th Anniversary Gala celebrated Paper Mill's legacy as a world-class producer of theater and its role as a pioneer in arts education for three-quarters of a century. The evening offered dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and entertainment by students from Paper Mill Playhouse's arts education programs, The Eddie Bruce Band, and headliner Jeremy Jordan, star of Broadway's Newsies and NBC's Smash. Playwrights Theatre Announces the Winners of the 30th Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest

Playwrights Theatre has announced the winners of the 30th Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest. From the 328 plays submitted by young writers throughout the state, a panel of theatre professionals has selected four High School plays, three Junior High School plays and three Elementary Schools plays. In each category, selection was blind; plays were selected without knowledge of playwrights' schools, grade or background. The 30th Annual New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest Festival will be held on May 20 and May 21, 2013 as part of a partnership between Playwrights Theatre and Premiere Stages at Kean University. Select plays from this festival will be reprised at Playwrights Theatre's nationally-recognized Forum Reading Series in December 2013. Premiere Stages Kicks Off 2013 Season With an Interactive Reading of ONTARIO WAS HERE, 6/21-6/23

Premiere Stages will open its ninth season as the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University with a free staged reading of Darren Canady's powerful new play Ontario Was Here. Selected from over 400 submissions, Ontario Was Here is the first of two scripts scheduled for expanded development as part of the 2013 Premiere Stages Play Festival. The Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts by playwrights with ties to the greater metropolitan area (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut), and perfectly embodies the theatre's passionate and longstanding commitment to supporting emerging artists through the development and production of new plays. Kean University Partners with New Jersey Workshop for the Arts for Summer Programs

This summer, the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts (NJWA) will partner with Kean University's Fine Arts Department and Art Education Program to offer the inaugural session of a dynamic new three-week summer arts intensive for young people entering grades 9-12. Founded in 1972 by Executive Director Theodore K. Schlosberg, the NJWA's stated mission is "to enrich lives by providing opportunities to develop creative talents and encourage a greater appreciation of the arts through both instruction and performance." The inaugural NJWA Fine Arts Academy, in residence at Kean University from July 8-26, will fall under the larger umbrella of the NJWA Summer Workshop (originally known as the Westfield Summer Workshop), and feature a faculty comprised exclusively of graduates of Kean's renowned Art Education Program. Kean alumnus Shawn McCabe is at the helm. (more...)

The 350th Anniversary of New Jersey is the Focus of Premiere Stages' 2013/2014 Liberty Live Initiative

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre in residence at Kean University, is committed to supporting emerging playwrights through the development and production of new plays. Under the umbrella of the Premiere Stages Play Festival, Premiere produces a biannual commissioning program for New Jersey playwrights entitled Liberty Live. Liberty Live is a unique new partnership with the Liberty Hall Museum that features a production of a new play that celebrates New Jersey history, tours of the Museum, interactive displays, workshops for children and talk-backs with local historians. The focus of the 2013/2014 Liberty Live project will be The 350th Anniversary of New Jersey and will be part of the statewide NJ 350 Initiative. (more...)

After being rejected by John the Baptist, Salome's unbridled desire for the pious prophet quickly turns into an uncontrollable lust for revenge. Wilde's sensational adaptation of this biblical tale dramatizes the eternal struggle between body and soul. Governor Chris Christie to Visit Liberty Hall Museum, 4/29

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University has announced it will host an exquisite Governors' Ball on its grounds the evening of Monday, April 29. Governor Chris Christie will serve as Honorary Chairman of the event, with a number of New Jersey's former governors expected to attend. The Governors' Ball will mark Governor Christie's first visit to Liberty Hall Museum, the former home of New Jersey's first elected governor, William Livingston, and six successive generations of the prominent Livingston and Kean families.
