2013 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Honors SCCC Students

Suffolk County Community College theatre students recently were selected to receive many major awards at this year's Kennedy Center American College National Theatre Festival finals in Washington, D.C. Suffolk Theatre majors captured multiple awards in numerous areas of the theatrical discipline, including performance, design, technology, and management. The competition attracts students from colleges offering Associate, Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters of Fine Arts programs across the nation. (more...)

Shakespeare on the Sound to Stage AS YOU LIKE IT, 6/13-30

Connecticut's premier outdoor Shakespeare will present As You Like It, June 13-30, 2013. The show is one of Shakespeare's most beloved and pastoral comedies. Claire Shannon Kelly, currently the Director of Youth Programming for Shakespeare on the Sound and the director of the company's touring educational program, 'Speaking Daggers,' will direct. Kelly previously worked at the Ordway Theater, the Guthrie Theater, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and the George Street Playhouse. She is a resident of New Canaan. (more...)

Official Press Opening will be July 17, 2013.Leading the cast in the role of Dolly Levi will be cabaret diva Klea Blackhurst. Ms. Blackhurst is best known for her award-winning tribute to Ethel Merman, Everything the Traffic Will Allow, which she has performed in venues across the U.S. and in London. She was most recently seen in Happy Huntingat The York Theatre. She also created the role of Miss Lemon in the new musical The Nutty Professor, which premiered this past summer in Nashville. Childbirth. This experience is one of life's grandest miracles. However, when her niece lost control of her childbirth experience, coupled with the escalating medical interventions and Caesarian Section rates, not to mention the poor diet and lack of exercise prevalent in today's western culture, it becomes apparent to seasoned midwife, nurse and author Irene Chain-Kalinowski that somehow women have lost faith in their ability to give birth. The traumas of the uncelebrated childbirth of her niece impelled Chain-Kalinowski to publish her new book, aptly titled My Body My Baby: Take Charge of Your Childbirth Experience and Celebrate It.
