Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra Give Benefit Concert to Assist Hurricane Victims Tonight

Music superstars Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra will be taking to the stage to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy. The two Latin music icons, in partnership with Barclays Center and producer Cardenas Marketing Network (CMN), will be donating all proceeds from tonight's November 24th concert to the American Red Cross - to support ongoing efforts to aid victims of last week's devastating disaster. New European Paintings Galleries to Open Tomorrow at Met Museum

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's galleries for its world-renowned collection of European Old Master paintings from the 13th through the early 19th century will reopen on May 23 after an extensive renovation and reinstallation. This is the first major renovation of the galleries since 1951 and the first overall reinstallation of the collection since 1972. Increased in size by almost one-third, the space now accommodates the display of more than 700 paintings in 45 galleries, including one rotating special exhibition gallery. The galleries are organized both chronologically and geographically to provide an overview of painting in Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain. Many of the galleries have new floors and moldings and the suites of galleries unfold with a new logic and grandeur. Sculpture, medals, ceramics, and other decorative arts have been judiciously incorporated where their presence adds a layer of meaning to the display of paintings. Key works have been conserved or embellished with period frames. Important loans complement the permanent collection and celebrate the reinstallation. (more...)

Arts Centre Melbourne Announces The Performance Enhancers Series

Some of Australia's best independent music artists including David Bridie, Robert Forster, Archie Roach and Kavisha Mazzella will converse and perform live music in a series of very special events hosted by music journalists Lisa Palermo and Kate Welsman aka Systa bb. TESIS, BILBAO, and More Included in Science Fiction Film Festival, 1/16-3/6

The Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival which opened its first annual event this past December has partnered with the Cervantes Institute to host the much anticipated 'A Retrospective of Classic Spanish Horror Cinema' every Wednesday at 7pm from January 16 through March 6. The event kicks off with the screening of Alejandro Amenábar's chilling film Tesis (1996), a unique interpretation that presents secrets, crime and suspense in this Goya Award winner for Best Film. Clarinetist Thomas Piercy to Bring TOKYO TO NEW YORK, 5/18 & 6/2

NYC and Tokyo-based clarinetist, Thomas Piercy performs two concerts of new music by contemporary Japanese composers based on their thoughts about NYC and works by non-Japanese composers influenced or inspired by Japan. The concerts will be visually backed by projections of photos of New York City by photographer Christina Boers and photos of Tokyo by Thomas Piercy. Many of the pieces have been composed for and premiered by Mr. Piercy. Several of the pieces include the combination of Western classical instruments with traditional Japanese instruments (shakuhachi and hichiriki). (more...)
