ARTPLACE Announces Four Grants to Alaska Non-Profits

Raisin Cycle Documentary Set to Air on PBS

PBS and CENTERSTAGE announce “A Raisin in the Sun Revisited: The Raisin Cycle at Center Stage,” a documentary special that follows the process of mounting The Raisin Cycle from the first rehearsal through the openings of both Clybourne Park and Beneatha's Place. The Film Society of Lincoln Center Showcases Matías Piñeiro, 7/12-21

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will showcase the work of Argentinian filmmaker Matias Piñeiro during the upcoming Latinbeat film Festival (July 12 - 21) and will simultaneously open two of his films, Viola and Rosalinda, theatrically on July 12th. Latinbeat will play host to the NY premiere of Piñeiro's 2007 film The Stolen Man/El hombre robado and 2009 film They All Lie/Todos mienten. Viola returns to the Film Society after debuting at this year's New Directors/New Films and will be released in the US through Cinema Guild. All screenings of Viola at the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be followed by his short film Rosalinda. (more...)

TESLA Sells Out Opening Night

With all the buzz on the purchase of Nikola Tesla's old laboratory by the Tesla Science Center, Nikola Tesla himself has become quite the hot topic. Being the 70th anniversary of his passing, citizens around the world are finding different ways to honor the incredible scientist and inventor. Some of those individuals choosing to admire his work are Sanja Bestic and Sheri Graubert with their new Off-Broadway play, Tesla. Opening this week on May 24th with a preview on the 23rd, opening night is entirely sold out with guests ranging from around the world, including The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York and Vuk Jeremic who is a Serbian physicist, Politician and President of the United Nations General Assembly. Northrop Summer Music Festival 2013 (NSMF) on Northrop Plaza. A free, outdoor summer concert series, NSMF features well-known local musicians and DJs, alongside emerging U of M student bands. The Playwrights Foundation Announces 36th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival

The Playwrights Foundation has announced the winners of the 36th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) that will take place July 19-28, 2012 at the Thick House Theater in San Francisco. Of the six selected plays, three are by Bay Area playwrights Joan Holden, Prince Gomolvilas and Erin Bregman; and three are by New York emerging artists Jiehae Park, Laura Schellhardt and Kimber Lee. Running the gamut from a fever dream in the North/South Korean DMZ to a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Free Speech Movement - each of these plays use bold, beautifully poetic and dramatic language and vivid characters to tear into the very fabric of contemporary political and social upheaval - globally and locally. WADJDA Takes Top Honor at 8th Annual Gulf Film Festival

Burning Coal Theatre Company Announces 8-Week Classes for Adults

Burning Coal Theatre Company's artistic director, Jerome Davis, will conduct an eight week acting class based on the concepts the legendary acting teacher, Uta Hagen. The class will take place Mondays from 7 to 10 pm, June 10 through July 29th. The class is a scene study class which emphasizes ideas discussed in Ms. Hagen's landmark book Respect for Acting.
