The Lyric Opera Broadcasts Will Be Rebroadcast by The WFMT Radio Network

Beginning on Saturday, May 18, and continuing every Saturday through July 13, The Lyric Opera Broadcasts of the 2012/13 Lyric Opera of Chicago season will be rebroadcast internationally by The WFMT Radio Network and heard locally on 98.7WFMT. Lyric's 2012-13 season comprises nine operas plus the musical Oklahoma! Two of the shorter operas, Hansel and Gretel and Elektra, will be broadcast on a single date as a double bill. (more...)

The Recording Industry Association of America Adds Digital Streaming to Gold & Platinum Standards

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) today announced the integration of streams to its historic Gold & Platinum (G&P) Program, the industry's premier award for recognizing artistic achievement in the marketplace. On-demand audio and/or video song streams will now be counted towards the 500,000 (Gold), 1,000,000 (Platinum) and 2,000,000 plus (multi-Platinum) thresholds required for G&P's Digital Single Award certification. LA VOIX HUMAINE and SUOR ANGELICA Conclude Seattle Opera's 2012-13 Season, Now thru 5/18

Seattle Opera's 2012/13 season concludes in May with a double bill of compelling twentieth-century operas, both new to the company: La Voix Humaine, by Francis Poulenc, and Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica. Both these one-act operas follow fascinating women who must grapple with despair as they meet their fate; but the two works, like the composers who created them, are extremely different. In Poulenc's sensual monodrama, a woman stumbles through a minefield of emotions as she attempts to stay connected to her ex-lover over the telephone. Puccini's mystical tragedy tells the story of a young nun who learns of the death of the son she was forced to abandon. She kills herself yet miraculously passes into a state of grace. Performances begin tonight, May 4 and run through May 18. (more...)

Violinist Itzhak Perlman to Conduct and Perform with Atlanta Symphony, 4/25-28

Acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman will take center stage as violinist and the podium as guest conductor to lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a program including 'Summer' and 'Winter' from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Mahler's Symphony No. 1, 'Titan.'
