Goodman Theatre Extends THE JUNGLE BOOK Through 8/11by BWW News Desk - Jun 19, 2013Goodman Theatre's world premiere of The Jungle Book begins previews on June 21 (opening night is July 1) and, with a second extension week just added, now runs through August 11. Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman reimagines Walt Disney's 1967 animated hit into a wholly original new work for the stage, drawing from both the film as well as Rudyard Kipling's 1894 collection of stories set in the Indian jungle and featuring original Indian-inspired music and dance. As previously announced, 10-year-old Akash Chopra makes his Chicago debut as young "man cub" Mowgli, who comes of age with the help of the anthropomorphic singing and dancing jungle animals; joining him in the role at select performances is Roni Akurati, who most recently appeared at the Goodman as Tiny Tim in the 2011 production of A Christmas Carol. Denver Tourism Breaks Records in 2012by BWW News Desk - Jun 19, 2013Denver had a banner tourism year in 2012, setting new records for visitor volume and spending, according to the Longwoods International annual visitor profile study. The report, commissioned by VISIT DENVER, found that Denver welcomed 13.6 million overnight visitors in 2012, 3 percent more than in 2011 and an all-time high. NEW VIEWS Now Open at Art Institute of Chicagoby BWW News Desk - Jun 19, 2013The Art Institute of Chicago is widely known for its archival collections in the field of architecture, including thousands of project renderings, sketches, plans, collages, and drawings by such architects as Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. This rich practice of architectural rendering has been transformed as contemporary architects have turned to computers to give form to their ideas, integrate their projects into existing landscapes, and plan possibly impossible structures. This revolution in architectural imagery was the subject of an issue of the architectural journal CLOG, with whom the Art Institute collaborated to produce New Views: The Rendered Image in Architecture, which can be seen now in the Art Institute's Kurokowa Gallery (Gallery 286) in the Modern Wing.
