Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company's NEW YORK LIVE ARTS to Launch Tour at Festival de Marseille

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' resident dance company, today announced the touring programs and productions for the 2013-2014 season, continuing the Company's 30th anniversary celebrations. The Company will perform in 13 cities in three countries over the next 10 months, making their debut at a number of venues across the U.S. and abroad. The tour kicks off with the Company's debut at the Festival de Marseille, in Marseille, France, on June 19 with a residency and performances of Play and Play: an Evening of Movement and Music. Other touring programs of the 2013-2014 season include A Rite, with Anne Bogart's SITI Company; Story/Time; Body Against Body; and /Time: Study I, a new site-specific work. (more...)

Redmoon to Host YOUTH SPECTACLE 2013 with Trung Le, 6/27

Redmoon, the large-scale spectacle and public art group, is hosting a symposium at their new home in Pilsen on 'Youth voice, empowerment, and the value and power of public space' as a culmination to Redmoon's Youth Spectacle 2013 intervention series. On the heels of Co-Artistic Director, Jim Lasko's return from distinguished year-long Harvard-based Loeb Fellowship, he will speak to frame the evenings event. The event will feature a keynote given by Trung Le, Principal Architect for Cannon Design's education consultancy group, an advocate for incorporating multiple intelligences and learning styles in the design of education environments, and co-author of The Third Teacher with Bruce Mao. Primitive Set to Exhibit Collection of Rare Pre-Columbian Stone Votives That May Carry a Message from 'Mother Earth'

Primitive, the well-known Chicago gallery, unveiled a collection of pre-Columbian stone votives from the farmlands of Peru known as Canopa. These small hand-chiseled containers are considered exceptionally rare and usually seen only in museums. Hundreds of years ago, they were created in honor of Pachamama, the Earth Goddess, by the Inca people in Peru. They will be exhibited as part of an exhibition of ancient stone from around the world. Sondheim Artscape Prize Exhibition on View at the Walters Art Museum June 29 – August 11

The Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) present the Sondheim Artscape Prize: 2013 Finalists. On view at the Walters June 29–August 11, 2013, the exhibition showcases artwork by the finalists for the annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, a $25,000 fellowship that is given each year to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region. M&T Bank has partnered with BOPA to establish the M&T Bank Sondheim Finalists' Awards, which provide a $2,500 honorarium for each of the remaining finalists not selected for the fellowship. William Petersen to Star Alongside Rae Gray in Steppenwolf Theatre's SLOWGIRL, 7/18-8/25

This summer, Steppenwolf ensemble member-and former artistic director--Randall Arney returns to Chicago to stage Greg Pierce's hit play, Slowgirl, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theater in 2012. Arney reunites with fellow ensemble member William Petersen in the role of Sterling (the two first appeared on stage together in Steppenwolf's 1980 production of Balm in Gilead); the two-hander also includes Rae Gray (The Book Thief) as Becky. A playwright with 'impressive writing chops' who 'builds suspense, releases tension through laughs and grabs your attention with life-or-death stakes' (NY1), Pierce's plays later travels to Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where Arney currently serves as artistic director, as part of the 2013/14 season.
