Stranger Productions Presents MONEY, Beginning 5/31

Stranger Productions presents the 50th Anniversary production of MONEY, a musical with book and lyrics by David Axlerod and Tom Whedon, and music by Sam Pottle. This is the first professional NYC production ofMONEY since its 1963 premiere at the Upstairs at the Downstairs, a bistro/theatre on W. 56th St. that, with MONEY, added scripted musicals to what had previously been a steady performance diet of revues and cabaret presentations. This first production ran for a solid 214 performances. Gerald Moshell directs a cast of four, including Robin Rightmyer, Meg Kiley Smith, David Andrew Laws and Logan Keeler. MONEY will run at the Studio Theatre on Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street, NYC for fifteen performances from May 31-June 16, 2013. (more...)

LEND ME A TENOR Begins 5/18 at Bay Street Theatre

Bay Street Theatre begins the 2013 Mainstage Season with Lend Me a Tenor (May 28 - June 23). This hilarious Ken Ludwig comedy started rehearsals this week in New York City under the direction of Don Stephenson. The cast includes Judy Blazer, Scott Cote, Betsy DiLellio, Donna English, Nancy Johnston, Noah Plomgren, Steve Rosen and Roland Rusinek. Ticket prices are $59.50 and $69.50. BWW Exclusive: Hugh Panaro and Norm Lewis to Star in LES MISERABLES at the Muny July 15 - 21; Highly Anticipated Cast Announced!

The Muny announced principal casting for the fifth show of its fantastic 95th season, Les Miserables. Broadway veterans Hugh Panaro and Norm Lewis make their Muny debuts starring as Jean Valjean and Javert, respectively. Also starring is Michael McCormick as Thenardier. The production is directed by Richard Jay-Alexander, who served as the associate director and executive producer of the original Broadway, touring and Canadian companies of Les Miserables. (more...)

East West Players Extends Run of Musical CHESS to June 23rd

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, has extended the run of CHESS, now through June 23rd, 2013. All performances are staged at the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts at 120 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. Barbara Cook Cancels Tonight's Performance at NJPAC Due to Illness

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) just announced on its Facebook page that Barbara Cook has had to cancel tonight's performance due to a stomach virus. The John Pizzarelli Quartet with guest vocalist Jessica Molaskey will now perform a full concert in the Prudential Hall. (more...)

Kristine Nielsen and Lewis J. Stadlen have been named to receive the annual Richard Seff Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation. The award honors a veteran female and male character actor for the best performance in a supporting role in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production. The announcement was made by Arne Gundersen, president of the Actors' Equity Foundation, which administers the Award. (more...)

For Rhapsody in Blue (June 1 & 2), one of the most popular American concert works, conductor Bramwell Tovey will take to the piano to play Gershwin's beloved jazz-infused Piano Concerto. Before leading the orchestra in Elgar's Enigma Variations- a series of charming musical sketches about the composer's closest friends -Tovey, an eloquent host, will share some of the unsolved mysteries of the work's "secret" contents.
