The theatrical event of the season and Two River Theater’s most ambitious musical to date, featuring a cast of 13 and a full band. It’s Pamela’s birthday, and Aunt Louise is taking Pamela to her very first Broadway musical! Written by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winner Wendy Wasserstein (adapted from her book of the same title) and Tony and Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang, Pamela’s First Musical captures the wonder of a child’s first experience with the spectacular, whimsical, and splendiferous world of musical theater. The show features music and lyrics by Tony Award-winners Cy Coleman and David Zippel and choreography and direction by 10-time Tony Award nominee Graciela Daniele.

San Francisco North Bay theater artists gathered Monday night at 3 Disciples Brewing in downtown Santa Rosa for the Fourth Annual Marquee Theater Journalists Association Awards. Eighteen awards were given to local theatre artists and productions whose nominations were culled from the sixty-eight Sonoma County productions attended by members from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019.

The 20th Anniversary Woodstock Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday with the Closing Night film Marriage Story, directed by Noah Baumbach. Audience ballots from more than 100 films were counted late Sunday night to determine the winners of the Audience Awards. Over the past week, thousands of film goers, industry and filmmakers from around the world attended screenings, panels, and special events in Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Rosendale, Kingston and Saugerties.

New Home For George Street Playhouse Opens Tonight

George Street Playhouse has a new home at the brand new NBPAC (New Brunswick Performing Arts Center) which also serves as the resident home for American Repertory Ballet, Crossroads Theatre Company and the Mason Gross School of the Arts. The new cultural venue is set to open this evening (Wednesday) with an invitational gala at 6 pm at the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater, the larger of the two state-of-the-art theatres at NBPAC. This special event will feature two musical numbers performed by the stars of George Street Playhouse's upcoming engagement of the new musical LAST DAYS OF SUMMER, based on the best-selling novel by Steve Kruger and directed by Jeff Calhoun (GREASE, NEWSIES). Jacob's Pillow presents Caleb Teicher & Company (CT&Co) in their Doris Duke Theatre debut with contemporary composer and pianist Conrad Tao, July 24-28. CT&Co and Tao collaborate in More Forever, a highly anticipated new work that explores tap, vernacular jazz, and Lindy Hop on a stage filled with a thin layer of sand, developed in part at the Pillow Lab. Acclaimed as "one of the brightest lights in tap today" (The New Yorker) and most recently nominated for the 2019 Bessie Award for Breakout Choreographer, Teicher is an alumnus of both the Tap and Musical Theatre Programs (2010) at The School at Jacob's Pillow. More Forever was hailed as part of "Best Dance of 2018" by Alastair Macaulay of The New York Times, and considered a new peak for Teicher and his company.

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," has announced casting for its 29th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, which opens with the return of the wild, comic rock musical CRY-BABY,  based on the iconic John Waters film, a show which New Line first produced in 2012 in its American regional premiere, running Sept. 26-Oct. 19, 2019. The season continues with the electrifying new rock musical fresh from Broadway, in its regional premiere, HEAD OVER HEELS, a high-energy, adult romp about gender and sexuality, based on a 16th-century novel and using the songs of the 80s rock band The Go-Go's, running March 5-28, 2020. And the season closes with the return of one of New Line's biggest hits, which the New Liners first presented in 2007, the pitch dark satire URINETOWN, the hilarious, outrageous fable of greed, corruption, love, revolution, and urination, running June 4-27, 2020.

Time is a feeling; it is swing, groove and rhythmic feel - the essence of tap dancing itself. For tap dancers, how they play time in jazz music has everything to do with who they are as musicians and as human beings. Rhythm is intimately personal and music is the original DM (direct message).
