Barrel of Monkeys Add Free 'Celebration of Authors' Set for 6/11

The young writers from Barrel of Monkeys' Chicago Public Schools and after-school programs are honored at the 11th annual 'Celebration of Authors' on Tuesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. reception). This yearly tradition features performances of a selection of the best stories from the year. Over 30 actor-educators will perform the childrens' stories on stage for the authors, their families and schoolmates. 'Celebration of Authors' is in a new location at the University of Chicago's Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th Street. The performance is free and open to the public, however seating is limited and reservations are required by calling Barrel of Monkeys at 312-409-1954. (more...)

Aurora Theatre Company Announces Call for GAP Submissions

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company is proud to announce a call for submissions for its ninth season of the Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works. The company will choose four new plays to be presented as staged readings with professional directors and actors during the GAP festival in February and March of 2014; the festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged Bay Area Premiere of Johnna Adams's incendiary new play GIDION'S KNOT, directed by Jon Tracy (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity). Each of the four prizewinners will receive a $1,000 award and their work will be considered for further development and production during Aurora Theatre Company's regular season; out of town artists will receive travel and accommodation expenses. The submission period opens June 3; deadline for play submission is July 31, 2013. Finalists will be announced in early December 2013. (more...)

GORILLA Begins Performances Tomorrow at Theatre Row

The Danish premiere was just nominated for the 2013 Reumert Award (the Danish equivalent of the Tony Award) for Best Playwrighting. LAW & ORDER: SVU Up Week-to-Week in Adults 18-49

At 9 p.m. ET, 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' (1.6/6 in adults 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) grew week to week by 7 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.6 from a 1.5) and 3 percent in total viewers (6.680 million vs. 6.478 million), despite competition last night from the season finales of ABC's 'Modern Family' and CBS's 'Criminal Minds. Note that 'Law & Order: SVU' adds significant viewership through time-shifting, with its prior telecast growing by 40 percent going from these next-day 'live plus same day' ratings in 18-49 (1.52) to 'live plus three day' results (2.13). ABC Finishes 2012-13 Season Strong with MODERN FAMILY

ABC was #1 on the final night of the 2012-13 season in Adults 18-49 (tie) with Modern Family finishing as Wednesday's #1 show on all 4 weeks of the 2013 May Sweep. In fact, ABC ranked #1 for the May Sweep in Adults 18-49 (tie) for the first time in 13 years - since 2000. Closing out the season with strong momentum, the Net was #1 in Total Viewers and/or Adults 18-49 on 5 of the final 6 nights (Fri/Sun/Mon/Tues/Wed). The Middle had its most-watched season finale since 2010 and Nashville closed its first season its best numbers since the beginning of the year. (more...)
