BWW Interviews: Florence Henderson
by Joseph F. Panarello - February 5, 2010
It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment when Florence Henderson became a household name. It was certainly through the media of television, but was it her numerous appearances on the then-popular variety shows? Perhaps it was because of the proliferation of commercials she did for Polident and Wesson Oil; the latter in which she helped coin the phrase "Wessonality". Obviously her long stint as Mrs. Carol Brady in "The Brady Bunch" played a major role in her becoming not only a name people easily recognized, but a talent that has genuinely been appreciated by different generations down through the years. REVIEW: Musical Theatre West's SWEENEY TODD is Bloody Good (Ends 2/14)
by Michael L. Quintos - February 1, 2010
Musical Theatre West's incredible production of SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET transports you instantly to London, circa early 1846. This is no sunny fairy tale—life is bleak, poverty is rampant, corruption is the rule, and a devoted family man can progressively turn into a vengeful murderer and not even blink with the slightest of guilt. Thanks to top-notch production values (sometimes a lovely surprise with regional theater productions) and an impressive cast performing what is arguably Sondheim's most defining career-spanning masterpiece, this is one of Musical Theatre West's most spectacular musical offerings in the past few years. BWW Interviews: Legendary Performer Ben Vereen
by Jessica Lewis - January 29, 2010
In an industry as unpredictable as show business, it is truly a unique experience to meet one of the longtime greats - a performer who has done everything from Broadway to off-Broadway, film, television, children's specials and variety circuits, who been everywhere from London to Abu Dhabi and back over the course of a nearly 45 year career. It is particularly exciting to be sitting next to this same someone, who I personally grew up watching on T.V. in shows and specials like the unforgettable "Roots," and who created some of the most famous roles in show business that have been copied thousands of times by professionals, amateurs and students alike, including 'Judas Iscariot' in Jesus Christ Superstar (Tony nomination), and 'Leading Player' in Pippin (Tony Award). This is a man who has made almost as much of a a name for himself on stage as he has off as an activist for diabetes awareness and arts in education, a motivational speaker, acting coach, mentor, and lecturer in black history (amongst other things) throughout the country.
