RIALTO CHATTER: Tony Winner Vereen Hit With 10 Million Dollar Lawsuit by Rialto Chatter - Jan 19, 2009WENN News Services is reporting that Tony winning actor Ben Vereen has been hit with a $10 million lawsuit by his daughter's ex-fiance over a house the former couple once shared together. William McGlynn, 39, in the lawsuit filed last week, claims he proposed to Malaika Vereen with a $30,500 engagement ring in 2004 and spent over $250,500 on the entertainer's daughter and grandson during their two-year courtship. McGlynn alleges he made a $123,000down payment on the $600,000 New Jersey home the couple shared, which was co-signed by Ben Vereen reports WENN. McGlynn allegedly called off the wedding in 2005 and demanded to sell the home and be reimbursed for his down payment, when he learned his future father-in-law was the only name on the deed. McGlynn says, '(Vereen) said my word is my word, we don't have to sign anything. He told me that everything would be okay... I tried reaching out to him... he said it's out of his hands. Even if I don't get the money back, I can let people know who these people are - to beware. Love is blind, I guess.' (more...)

Next to Normal to Receive Cast Recording on Sh-k-Boom Recordsby BWW News Desk - Jan 18, 2009Tom Kitt (composer) and Brian Yorkey's (Book writer and lyricist) rock musical Next to Normal closed on January 18th at Arena Stage in Washington, DC but, the show's fans have reason to rejoice with the news that Sh-K-Boom Records will be recording the cast this February for release on CD.
Kitt and Yorkey's musical which focuses on a family in crisis follows a high-profile Off-Broadway run at Second Stage Theatre. The collaborators include Kitt, Yorkey, director Michael Grief, and choreographer Sergio A.Trujillo. Next to Normal chronicles the story of a mentally unstable mother and the waves she creates in the lives of her husband and daughter and stars Tony Award nominee Alice Ripley (Side Show), who returns to the project as mom Diana. West End Thriving with Record B.O. Scores by BWW News Desk - Jan 17, 2009Variety is reporting some very good news for the world of theatre, while Broadway is dealing with a bit of a 'chill', the West End is heating up with record box office scores.
The entertainment bible reports that for the the week commencing Dec. 29, 'the London production of 'Wicked' grossed ?885,294 ($1.28 million), the highest weekly tally of its entire London run, while 'Billy Elliot' also broke its own weekly box office record'. The Queen musical 'We Will Rock You,' which just celebrated its seventh birthday at the Dominion Theater, achieved the highest number of paid admissions in one week for any West End show in 2008. Nicole joins a cast which includes Alli Mauzey as Glinda, Jayne Houdyshell as Madame Morrible, P.J. Benjamin as The Wizard, Kevin Kern as Fiyero, Alex Brightman as Boq, Brynn O'Malley as Nessarose, and Timothy Britten Parker as Dr. Dillamond. LOVE, NY Concert Moves to New World Stages on January 26, D'Abruzzo & Brightman Join Castby BWW News Desk - Jan 16, 2009The concert performance of LOVE, NY, the new musical by Robert Rokicki and Michael Ruby, will now play at New World Stages on January 26, 2009 at 8PM. The concert had been set to play at The Zipper Factory until its unexpected closing earlier this week.
In addition, Tony Award Nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo (AVENUE Q) will perform and host the event. Also joining the cast is Wicked's current Boq, Alex Brightman.

Northwestern's 2009 Dolphin Show Offers Up Modern Day 'OZ'by BWW News Desk - Jan 14, 2009The 2009 Dolphin Show is a modern re-telling of L. Frank Baum's popular tale 'The Wizard of Oz.' The family show will be the 67th annual production by Northwestern University students. It is one of the largest student-produced musicals in the nation. Among the show's updates will be a 'Dorothy' who will be fashionably attired in a T-shirt and skirt rather than a gingham dress, and in place of demure ruby slippers, she will wear trendy red high-heels. Five performances of 'The Wizard of Oz' will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23; 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24; 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25; 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30; and 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., on the University's Evanston campus. The show will feature the songs 'Over the Rainbow' and 'We're Off to See the Wizard,' among other classic favorites. (more...)
