NAMT Awards $10,000 to Support Barrington Stage's SOUTHERN COMFORT World Premiere, 7/19-8/10

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, has announced it has received a $10,000 National Fund grant from the National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT), for its Musical Theatre Lab world premiere production of the musical, Southern Comfort, July 19 - August 10. TUTS And Saint Arnold's Team Up To Hold SPAM Cookoff In Celebration Of Spamalot, 5/1

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) and Saint Arnold's have partnered to host Houston's first-ever "Saint Arnold's Spam Off". SPAM - the meat, not the email - has sold over 7 billion cans since its launch in 1937. It has served as the inspiration for comedy shows and earned a place in pop culture with both a museum and a musical bearing its name. Thus, to celebrate the run of Spamalot from May 14 to 26 at Hobby Center, Theatre Under the Stars and Saint Arnold's, along with several other local restaurants, will host a feast, in small bites, centering around the delectable and surprisingly delicious SPAM. Michael Weber, Artistic Director of Porchlight Music Theatre, announced casting for Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, February 2 - March 10, 2013 and Pal Joey, April 20 - May 26, 2013, both at Stage 773, 1225 W Belmont and the naming of new Artistic Associates and members to the Advisory Board. Alexis J. Rogers will play "Billie Holiday" in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, by Lanie Robertson to be directed by Porchlight Artistic Associate Rob Lindley. (more...)

Today in 2002, Thoroughly Modern Millie opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 903 performances. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, it tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. The production subsequently won six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Sutton Foster. (more...)

Anita Dobson to Star in New Musical Based on THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS at Riverside Studios

Anita Dobson will star in a new musical based on Camille Saint-Saens' The Carnival Of The Animals, according to a report by the Daily Mail. Created by Gavin Greenaway, Roger Hyams, Andrew Marshall and Brian Eastman, a tryout will open at Riverside Studios on July 4 and run for two weeks through July 14, 2013. (more...)

HERE LIES LOVE Extends Again Through June 2 at the Public

The Public Theater announced another two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE began performances on Tuesday, April 2 and has been extended twice due to high demand. The new 360 degree musical will now run through Sunday, June 2 in The Public's LuEsther Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 23. (more...)

The 2013 Tommy Tune Awards winners have been announced! To a crowd of more than 2,500 people, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) declared the winners of TUTS' eleventh annual Tommy Tune Awards on the evening of Tuesday, April 16, at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Adding extra excitement to the evening, the award ceremony's namesake and nine-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune made a special appearance to kick off the show and to present the night's top honor. Planet Connections Theatre Festivity to Stage New Musical WALDEN, 5/29-6/23

The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity presents Walden, a story-theatre style musical adaptation of Thoreau's best seller, featuring his work on the underground railroad and his star-crossed romance. Six performances for Walden will be held at the Robert Moss Theatre, 440 Lafayette Street, NYC from May 29-June 15 as part of The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. National Alliance for Musical Theatre Announces $37,000 in Grants

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 11 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals.
