Arena Stage Presents OKLAHOMA! 10/22-12/26

As Arena Stage begins a new life in its renovated home at the Mead Center for American Theater in Southwest D.C., it opens its inaugural season with a classic American musical that similarly embraces life on a new frontier. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! is the first production at the Mead Center and features an all-star cast under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! runs October 22-December 26, 2010 in the Fichandler Stage.

The Lucille Lortel Awards announced today the details for the 25th Anniversary Lortel Awards Reception & Ceremony. The Awards Reception will be held on May 2, 2010 at 6 PM EST with the Ceremony beginning at 8 PM EST at Terminal 5, 610 West 56th Street, between 11th & 12th Avenues. Members of the industry may purchase tickets through the Off-Broadway League while members of the public wishing to watch the show can purchase tickets at ticketcentral.com or via phone 212-279-4200.

OKLAHOMA! is the first of the Rodgers & Hammerstein masterworks and is credited with establishing the musical play as a significant art form, paving the way for all others that came after it, including the works of Lerner & Loewe, Frank Loesser and Leonard Bernstein. After OKLAHOMA!, composer Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein, II (1895-1960) produced such vital works as CAROUSEL, THE KING AND I, SOUTH PACIFIC and THE SOUND OF MUSIC, making them the most important contributors to the musical-play form during the 1940s-1950s, the era that is considered the golden age of the medium.
